Popular Post WBurke
Turned my first two bowls over the weekend. Both are black walnut. Can already tell I need another chuck as swapping the jaws around is not fun when your in the grove making chips I have also turned a bunch more pens, made some bolt action kits as well

Popular Post Mark J
Nice work! Yeah, this is pretty much the crack coacine of woodworking. I only started turning last April and I've already bought a new lathe and gone from 3 basic carbide tools to 7 and, yes, I have two chucks. But it feels so good when your spinning.

They weren’t cheap blanks to start with but Boy do they look good. I did get a little tear out in the smaller bowl but I think it is just from my inexperience. All I have right now are the easy wood rougher and finishing tool. Still need some more practice.
Bankstick
Try www.woodturner.org for lots of information on turning. They have a listing of local clubs which are great for learning the "how-to" of turning. I know of turners who have a collection of chucks so they don't have to change chucks for different operations for turning. BTW, nice bowls. Some of the members of our club belong to at least two other clubs.
Chet
The bowls look nice, what did you finish them with?
woodbutcher
Beautiful bowls and pens. Ill agree that it doesnt get better than walnut for workability. What lathe are you using?
Chestnut
This is why I'll never buy a lathe. I already procrastinate enough it seems if i had a lathe i'd just fool around on that and never get anything done.
Mark J
I don't know, Nut, if you had a lathe you'd be surprised what you'd get a "round" to.

WBurke
Thank you guys. I am using the rikon 70-220vsr. To finish these bowls I used the doctor woodshop friction polish
