Tpt life
I don’t consider ipe, massaranduba, or lignum vitae to be splintery in the least.

I can only speak to IPE but agree I didn't feel it was splintery...now the wenge I am using on this jewelry box that SH$% gives splintery a whole new meaning
wdwerker
All the curves in that little table and nary a splinter. One curve had a edge crack off but it glued back on perfectly. Any wood can do that. I think there is quite a few trees in the family that all get marketed as Ipe. Bound to be variances between species. But if you can get cumaru/almendro (often sold for decking/flooring as well), it's a little less splintery than ipe. Cumaru is also very attractive & weathers well.

Marmotjr
Coming to this one late, but we built an entire BBQ setup for a patio out of Ipe. Stuff is hard as nails and won't rot.
