SawDustB
Hey guys, I acquired (free) a 6" bench grinder that I'm thinking about adding into my shop. I'm planning on adding my dad's old lathe in the spring, so I figure it will be useful. For those of you with very cramped shops, where do you put it? I'm thinking about rigging something up so I can stick it in the metal working vise to use it. Thoughts? Pictures?
Chet
I just keep mine in a cabinet under my miter station and when I bring it out I just clamp it to the miter bench top with a couple of F clamps.

Once you start using the lathe you will find that you will need to resharpen your lathe tools more often than you expected.Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
JohnDi
I have bolted to a 2 x 10 with a board screwed across the front, sort of like a bench hook. find it easier to clamp the board than the base of the grinder.

SawDustB
Great, thanks guys. Fortunately, my garage is small enough it's pretty much impossible to be far from anything. I don't have the lathe in there yet, but I suspect I'll do most turning at the entrance or in the driveway. I didn't know if there would be any brilliant flip up solutions or something. man of wood
if you are going to do some turning, then it will need to be close to the lathe. other than that a good place is by the drill press.

Bankstick
Within two steps of the lathe. I keep the grinder on a shelf under the lathe; it's secured to a piece of plywood as I have the Wolverine jig on it. I roll the TS out of its "slot" and put the grinder on it. Bankstick
Question here. What is the rpm stated on the data plate? If it is the 3450 rpm, take care to keep from overheating the metal. I bought a Rikon low speed grinder for lathe tools. Old grinder is for the lawnmower blades.
