STAINING?

But you’re right, it does look good, it’s cherry!

I've seen a lot of cherry stained. I don't really like it, but for some it has its use. I guess.

The most I would personally do to cherry is a natural stain, or maybe an oil of some sort (when I get around to learning those things), to let the grain/color pop a little more. Like my b&w darkroom work, I'm going to have to waste a couple of pieces to see what works.

Time ... where did I put all that time ...

That is some beautiful cherry. My favorite improvement in my woodworking was when I stopped trying to stain cheap wood from the big box stores and first used cherry with no stain and just several coats of wipe-on poly. Suddenly I started liking the things I made a whole lot more. Just the natural cherry glowing through the varnish is a thing of beauty. And it keeps getting nicer over time as it ages.

I was shopping around for more of it today. It's $20+ online.

Menard's was cheaper. And even then every store may not have the same price.

It was about $12 at my closest store. A significant savings. Already ordered & picking up after work.

So when you're looking for supplies, check Menard's

Seems like a waste of a lot of cherry to sell a few batteries (or whtaever).......

Take that argument too far and you'll justify MDF for everything. I don't see an issue with a store owner sharing a taste for nicer and higher quality things.

Pay attention they offer up to $6 mail in rebates on minwax poly quarts i never pay over $10 a quart for it. ARS could be better but at 2x the cost and minimal performance differences the wallet benefit wins out.
