Popular Post curlyoak
Above, will be all drawers. Except the left side was add on just in time to add open shelves because lefty would be bumping his elbow on the wall while shaving. This will be floating cabinets, meaning hung on the wall, no base. 2 dummies in front of the sinks. 9 faces, 7 drawers. Up to 4 of them to allow plumbing behind the drawers by building in a recess from the middle back to the drawers. I do not have all the numbers yet but it should be coming soon. I hope. The faces will be continuous grain of the same boards. The small box above will mimic the big piece. No plumbing. The piece above will be hung above the 3 drawer box on an opposite wall. I am making a single door with 2 matched panels of curly claro walnut from the same billet. I'll enjoy that. More to come. But slowly. I work 2 or 3 hours a day if I work...
Coop
Very nice! Is the back of the cabinet in the last pic, walnut ply?

All the backs are screwed on. Much easier to finish with the backs off.

Popular Post curlyoak
Dry fitted. Now in the clamps. Dry fitting is always important to me since I had a stressful but successful event on a door. Too much stress and not good risk reward. The people that I'm building this for wanted no profile on the edges around the panels. I put a cove on the bottom left edge for a finger grip. White markers are needed for my old eyes. Pencil marks may be hard to see on walnut. If the figured wood has a pattern that points, I always have it pointing up.
Popular Post curlyoak
Got the 10 drawers boxes built. Next to install the drawer slides. With my portable table, I will not need to work on the floor. Much easier for me. Also the backs have been screwed on so it will be much easier to install the hardware without backs. The 2 middle drawers on left and right have been compromised to allow room for the drain traps. Walnut will face off the drawers. 2 Dummies directly below the sinks.

Wow, that's great. You're welcome. Handy little bugger and it breaks down and stores flat. I modified my original design a little with some arc-like cutouts along the edges that hit the floor. This seems to make it a bit more stable on uneven garage floors like where i am now. The holes were for clamping something along the way and are not required. I'm serious about the 'inspiration' comment. I have wanted a walnut bath for two houses now . . . soon ;-)

Popular Post curlyoak
I am using kv8400 drawer slides. I have used these for years. Well made and reliable. The tolerance is about 1/16" side to side. I build them to be 1/16" smaller and I add formica shims. If they fit without shims I got lucky. It is perfect if I shim one side. I was careful in building the box knowing these tolerances. That allowed me to breeze through installing the hardware. Drawer faces next.
Popular Post curlyoak
More adjustments needed. I need to make the horizontal spacing bigger. I need to allow for varnish and mostly expansion. All kiln dried. The question is how much spacing? I'm guessing 3/16th. (Or a fart skin less. Equals 2 frog hairs.) I will remove wood from the 3 center drawers top and bottom. A little less work removing only 3 drawers. Any ideas? Thanks I used #14 stainless oval head 1 1/4" with a finish washer inside the drawer. I first drilled holes in the oak drawer box face. The hole matched a 10 penny common nail. I then clamped the drawer face to the box. When I was satisfied of the location of the face I then placed the nail inside the hole in the box and gave it a lick with my hammer. That gave me perfect location for pilot holes. I then with a 3/8" brad point bit drilled out the nail hole. The finish washer covers the big hole and I have full adjustment capability with the oversized hole.
wtnhighlander
@curlyoak, this is just my opinion, but I think it is more important that the spacing between the drawers is even and consistent, rather than tight. I would bat an eye at 1/4" gaps, or 1/8", so long as they all match.

Popular Post curlyoak
I changed the faces on the bottom drawers. The previous was blotchy on the finish so I changed it. Much better. I was delayed doing this because my planer went down. Up and running better than ever. Now waiting for the prep work in the bathroom to be done so I can install.
