Brendon_t
Last night before hopping on the redeye, I decided I was going to run one side of a beautiful new block of flame birch through the drum sander just to see what was going on below the surface. Incredibly stupidly, I was in a rush and disn't raise the drum enough. First attempt to run it and the drum caught very aggressively and stopped the belt. I took apart the belt feed motor and I had sheared four or five of the teeth. My drum sander hasn't been made in years. The drive motor IS still available, but at the price of the whole unit when it was new. Anybody have a supplier of gears? I was too ticked off to measure it before leaving but was thinking about it on the plane.

Pwalter5110
By any chance is your drum sander a Delta? I also have a sheered gear in my DC motor, and I have had ZERO luck finding help, or a gear in about 2 years. If you have any luck PLEASE share the info. wdwerker
Measuring with digital calipers may be a smart move to identify the exact size. Good chance they could be metric.
Brendon_t
I'm in new York working this week but will definitely get all the measurements and post some pics when I return.
Coop
Sounds to me that you're seeking justification for a new sander! You don't have to ask us, talk to wifey when you get home

Brendon_t
Given the raised side, I've got a feeling this is going to be impossible to source.
ponderingturtle
Given the raised side, I've got a feeling this is going to be impossible to source. That looks almost more like a sprocket than a gear in terms of tooth geometry. Was it running a piece of roller chain? If so that might be more replaceable. A raised central hub is very standard http://www.mcmaster.com/#2737t26/=xyswyu Though that is for a 3/8 shaft not the 5/16 shaft you have. Brendon_t
The main gear is running a smaller gear. Not a chain. The teeth appear to be flat ground straight shank.

Brendon_t
No. Ryobi wds 1600. It's a 16-32 knock off
Brendon_t
Ken for the win. With an alternate part number, amazon lists a 37 tooth ryobi gear for the wds 1600. $2 + $12 shipping..here's to hoping its the right one.
Coop
Don't forget, you said 3 of your teeth were missing so you may want to get the 40 tooth

atlinwi202
The .315 equals 8mm for the bore and it has a 5mm face so it is most likely a metric or MOD gear. See how the gear Ken picked out works and if it doesn't let me know the OD and we can match that with the tooth count to get the pitch. Good Luck!
