bushwacked
Ok makes sense. Those whole wood movement thing is on a level of its own. Is there any good books out there on how to handle it and stuff?

wdwerker
I use "Woodshop widget " app to calculate movement . It's got a bunch of other useful tools too. Calculates based on species, temp and humidity.
chrisphr
So sorry I wasn't following this journal till now, learned a ton just reading the thread. You going sockless in the workshop (badass)? Was the domino all that? I don't deserve one, but I am eyeballing the heck out of it online. I am one bourbon away from dropping the coin... The domino was very nice. It made quick work of my mortises. Probably 20 mins and it was done. If I did a lot of M&T joints and needed them quick to save time and money on projects it would be well worth it. For me though I still have awhile before that happens and I need other tools before that so it is on my list but just not top 15 at the moment. bushwacked
Ordered those Z fasteners from Mcfeelys so I have options. Still thinking about using Pugs option as well. Just need to pick up the pocket screw jig or see if I can barrow the domino some more.
Tpt life
I did not realize you had all those stretchers when we were talking clips. My apologies if I missed that through ignorance. After seeing the pic, what Pug is suggesting is a great route. If you did not have the pockets showing, I would even recommend a flat slot screw for a traditional look. rodger.
You could also put the pocket screws on the reverse face that I did if you wanted to hide them.

Ya I was thinking of doing that if I go your route to give it a cleaner look.
bushwacked
Got the gluing done. Now just drying. On a side note. Brother in law is making a kick ass board to be the base of Chinese checkers? Or something like that for the fire station. It looks real nice when wet and will finish up super cool with the 3d effect.

bushwacked
Couple of gaps to fill.... Lots of things look better wet, Tee shirts come to mind ! If you mean the bench .. That was pre glue up. Just got done with the dry fit. So those gaps went away once clamped. Well at least I hope they stay that way haha. Haha yes I would agree with that Awesome progress! Thanks! So far from the measurements from corner to corner to check square .. Table is about 1/16 from square. Bench is about 1/16-1/8 from square So I think that is doing pretty good! bushwacked
Getting more shop time today! Question. I put the block on the bottom in the keep the legs sqaure during glue up and have left them there while it's been sitting and waiting for me to work on it. I assume it's safe to take those out for good now? The legs should be ready to go and now bow in or anything?

bushwacked
Ok I'll just take it out and live with it. On to next question. What side would you use as the top for the bench? Or I think #2 should be but the first one looks kinda cool with the heavier grain. Will the heavier grain look like crap once it is finished? Byrdie
Agree with the side in the second photo being the better show face. Just me.
Eric.
No-brainer. One side is nice, one side is not.
