Cochese
That's awesome. How woodworkers make paper.
Eric.
I wonder how often they have to flatten that plane? I'm surprised to see some flat-sawn grain in it.
RichardA
That was just way cool, I'd keep that slice as a reminder that I once did it right, instead of 2 and 3 times before I got it right.
Coop
That's awesome. How woodworkers make paper. According to legend, that's the way my grandparents did it. Grandpa would stand outside the outhouse and hand it to grandma until she said enufff . Too poor for S&R catalogues.
wtnhighlander
I wonder how often they have to flatten that plane? I'm surprised to see some flat-sawn grain in it.Saw a 'how it's made' type video on those japanese planes once, may have been from Mr. Underhill. The block isn't flat, it is hollow, except right around the mouth, and the front and back edges are coplaner to the mouth. Like those japanese chisels with the hollow backs. Forget the plane...I want a few of those absolutely perfect planks!

Bombarde16
Forget the plane...I want a few of those absolutely perfect planks! You're talking about a country where fresh melons get scanned with X-rays and MRI's to ensure perfection and are then sold for $40 a pop. I want to know how many boards they scrapped to get that one. wdwerker
I'm with Rob on this one. I bet that board is soft and clean and approaching perfection.
