MisterDrow
(I moved this to the appropriate forum... had posted it in General Woodworking before... oops!) Going to be tapering some legs this weekend for that desk I've been working on... Basic tapering jigs don't seem all that expensive but I see a lot of folks online saying just to make one. Thoughts?
Eric.
Make. It's a piece of plywood or MDF and a pair of toggle clamps. Literally. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JWGYIM/ref=s9_top_hd_bw_b2Ju6_g469_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=84TA2XA3EXT25WVJM880&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=4520c9ea-dad4-492e-bdfe-eafeeefb740e&pf_rd_i=553170
mat60
I have just something quick I made years ago. Don't have a clamp on mine but that would be nice
Eric.
I made this one a few days ago. It took like ten minutes. For real. I tend to make a new one every time I need to make a new set of tapered legs because these quickies are not really adjustable...one day I'd like to build one that is so I don't have to keep making new ones. But until I do...some scraps and some screws and a few minutes...done...
rodger.
Yup, I'm with @Eric.. I build a new one pretty much every time. Quick and easy - a scrap of ply (or two), two toggle clamps, and a few screws.
MisterDrow
That settles it. I've got some scrap ply at home so I'll just pick up some toggle clamps and throw one together. I think after I'm done with this project I might try making one that is adjustable for a more permanent fixture. Thanks, guys!
bglenden
I always thought I should build or buy one, but in practice I just draw the lines, cut near them with my bandsaw, then cleanup on the jointer. I'm sure if I measured them I'd see that they differ by maybe 1/16", but in practice you can't see a difference. wdwerker
Bessey or Rockler auto adjust toggle clamps are well worth the money ! I use them on several jigs around the shop and switch them around as needed.
treeslayer
+1 to the above, i made an adjustable one a while back, all it needs now are the toggle clamps, you won't regret it
gee-dub
Here's how I did mine. Handy for delicate tapers and robust enough for straight-line ripping when you don't have a jointed edge.
Cliff
If I can make one, anyone can do it. I made the Jay Bates one. Except I used a 36" rockler miter bar instead of the fence. I would like to upgrade it with hold down clamps some day.

sjk
Tom might need your scraps to reinforce the toe kick when he builds his next vanity....
MisterDrow
I'm going to snag some 3/4" baltic birch ply scraps from the scrap bin at work for mine... considering putting two t-tracks in it to make it adjustable and able to also function as a jointing sled. I've got an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket, after all.
Popular Post wdwerker
3/4' walnut plywood scraps ? Of course I've got some, hard to throw away a 10" X 8' scrap ! I constantly use 1/2" Baltic and usually have quite a few 10- 11" X 60" cross grain scraps on hand. If any of you are nearby and need some for jigs give me a call and I will hook you up.

LOL Negative! I have 7/8 of a 4x8 Sheet of Walnut ply in my shop that I'm contemplating making a quick shop wall cabinet or shelves out of. Next vanity will be for my master bathroom, and most likely will be cherry ply.
Waldvogel Review
Awhile back rockler had theirs on sale so i bought it for jointing the edge of boards. I want to make my own version that can jointer a 6-8' board. We shall see how that goes for me
