wdwerker
Colored caulk or Color Putty .
bushwacked
For now can't do much about the mistake so I kept going. Got the face frame going and put wood filler in the nail holes so I can hopefully sand tonight if I get time or tomorrow.

If you are painting with latex (or something similarly flexible), caulk would be fine. However, if you are using a finish that will cure hard, applying that over a flexible filler like caulk will lead to cracking. Ask me how I know... Though as I re-read this, I see that his suggestion is for COLORED caulk, which implies it would go on AFTER the paint, which would work just fine. Squishy stuff on the outside, hardstuff on the inside. It's like a backwards blow pop. -E

bushwacked
Thanks Chet! Looking around and it seems this is what most people use?? Supposedly will not leave lines or anything and self leveling haha. We shall see I guess.

wdwerker
Have you used today's version of Alkyd (oil base ) paint before ? Longer drying times and smell lingers. Just a heads up.

Popular Post bushwacked
Maybe try this: Oh that's a cool trick there My supplier has Generals Polycrylic available custom tinted. Gotcha. So now ready to sand and prime hopefully in the next couple days. Not a nail hole will be seen. Not all the wood filler is nails. There were some holes on the poplar I filled too. I didn't go that crazy haha
bushwacked
Got all the styles and rails cut. Need to finish fitting the panel tomorrow. And after watching a refresher on mortise and tenon .... I didn't do it right haha. All them I watched did it this way but they also had a true mortise haha. Going to remake the rails tomorrow and not cut off the edges of the tenon so it's flush. Gotta love learning but won't make that mistake again ... hopefully. Plus it's only poplar so I ruined like .25 in wood haha.

bushwacked
Thats some nice progress Drew. It is definitely getting there. Thanks Chet! And a quick one with the doors kinda lined up just to get an idea of what it's going to look like. Now I need to start looking at hinges and pulls. It's almost time for that. Any thoughts on hinges? wdwerker
If you have a decent drill press euro concealed hinges might work well for you. Figure out how much the hinge edge of the door overlaps the face frame. Then measure the amount the face frame hangs in from the side. I would be glad to walk you through the set up to drill the 35mm cup holes. They make those hinges with the soft close feature built in to them.

wdwerker
Only if someone volunteers to shoot and edit it ! I've got over 25 years experience installing euro cup hinges but zero interest in learning video !
