RichardA
You've got some nice curl in that one board. Use it wisely.

Cherry strips on 3/4" Baltic birch core, 3/4" maple veneer base & ends, 2 1/2" wheels on the bottom. Tonight I'm adding the cherry end & top trim & delivering tomorrow. The customer wanted a display similar to what he could purchase, but w/o the end cap display (like image 2). It cost him a little more but it's going to last a lot longer. MDF slatboards don't last a long time.

I don't really like it, but for some it has its use. I guess. The most I would personally do to cherry is a natural stain, or maybe an oil of some sort (when I get around to learning those things), to let the grain/color pop a little more. Like my b&w darkroom work, I'm going to have to waste a couple of pieces to see what works. Time ... where did I put all that time ...
Geoffrey
That is some beautiful cherry. My favorite improvement in my woodworking was when I stopped trying to stain cheap wood from the big box stores and first used cherry with no stain and just several coats of wipe-on poly. Suddenly I started liking the things I made a whole lot more. Just the natural cherry glowing through the varnish is a thing of beauty. And it keeps getting nicer over time as it ages.

It's a camera store. I built the lens case for the store during the winter. He wants the wood look. And it will last longer than the MDF slatboard. He will probably be displaying bags & other accessories on it.
collinb
I was shopping around for more of it today. It's $20+ online. Menard's was cheaper. And even then every store may not have the same price. It was about $12 at my closest store. A significant savings. Already ordered & picking up after work. So when you're looking for supplies, check Menard's

Take that argument too far and you'll justify MDF for everything. I don't see an issue with a store owner sharing a taste for nicer and higher quality things. ARS could be better but at 2x the cost and minimal performance differences the wallet benefit wins out.
