TPG
Everytime I try to use my dado set on pine it blows out. The blades don't look bad but couls that be the problem? With 2 x 4's or 1 x 6's , it doesn;t matter.
gee-dub
Is the material milled true? The irregular surfaces of construction lumber combined with the true plane of a tablesaw’s blade spin do not marry well together. A rough reference surface yields a rough result.
..Kev
Welcome to the forums! To add to Gee-Dub's post, is the blade sharp and set up properly for the saw?
Popular Post Andy Wright
pine is very prone to blowout from dados when you are cutting cross grain. Be sure you have a backer board, and consider clamping the backer board to the workpiece
Tpt life
This is the nature of framing lumber. Sharp and zero clearance are your friends, but you are asking a lot of fir.

wdwerker
Applying tape can reduce tearout some but clean sharp blades, zero clearance throat plates and backer boards are important too.
TPG
I'm doing the Steve Ramsey project where you make a step stool out of a 2 x 4. Most of it is 15 degree angles.. I sent out my blades yesterday so maybe that will work. I had the same problem when I made a box joint glove box. The backer board didnt help so we'll see when I get the blades back. Thanks to everyone
Immortan D
If you're cutting box joints on the long grain, chances of blow out are very high even on hardwoods even with a backer board and a new blade. And even if you succeed, you will be making a weak joint.

mat60
I did a large pine chest years ago with box joints and had some blowout also even with a sharp dado blade and backer board. I no they make a box joint dado blade set and often wondered if that would help.
gee-dub
It is a pain but with tear out prone material, clamping the stock to the backer board/fence will cure the blowout. Clamp, cut, un-clamp, move, clamp, cut, etc. Despite how strong you think your hands are, they’re not that strong.
wdwerker
You might try double face tape to attach the backer board .
