Chip Sawdust
I searched here for comments on these and didn't find anything. I just bought two of the 24" clamps and am wondering if anyone else has bought and used them?
wdwerker
I've read about them but haven't laid hands on one yet. I can see where having a few could come in handy.
gee-dub
I have definitely had to work around situations that this format of a clamp would solve. Interesting that Klingspor has them cheaper than Amazon for a set of four.
wdwerker
Besos has to pay for Blue rockets somehow.....
Mark J
I like the idea of this format for an F clamp. If similarly priced I would choose these over the traditional format. But I'm the exception to that rule, I actually have enough clamps.

No, you have too few workpieces! 1

Chip Sawdust
So they're no stronger than a normal clamp.. These are 24" and next to my heavy 36 inch they look weak, but they have a distinct advantage in the handle position that the K clamps don't have, in that the handles are off the bench. For some reason I can't attach a photo today.
wdwerker
Specs say 450 lbs force max from the Gear Clamps, 600 lbs from a Bessey "F clamp, and 1700 lbs from a K body revo. A Quick Grip large clamp is 600 lbs the medium duty is 300 lbs. Just for comparison.
Chip Sawdust
Here's a visual comparison I finally got pictures to load. You can see how the gear clamp bows. Obviously the other clamp is heavy duty, so it's not a fair comparison I suppose. Kind of like a quick clamp without the speed. But the other picture shows the handle location which is handy in certain locations. Since they're about the same price as Irwin quick clamps I guess they're a fair deal. Longevity will be the next question. When I asked the guy about service experience he said, "well, they're Bessey" as if that was the answer to everything. Chestnut
That clamp looks unhappy. I think it's on the upper end of it's design load.

I'm having to crank the heck out of it to get those spindles all settled.
wdwerker
In an open situation like that I would be using sturdier clamps. K Body JR's are rated at 900 lbs. But being able to clamp in places where the handle won't fit is that Gear clamps rightful home. Maybe a specialty thing you only have a few of but looks useful to me. wtnhighlander
The handle position could be handy at times, but the older I get, the more I appreciate simpler designs that use the fewest moving parts, and just WORK. Slick as that looks, I think I'll pass.
Chip Sawdust
I probably won't be buying any more. I don't see them (yet) as that remarkable.
rodger.
They look they would be good for clamping things down to a work surface. I would still reply on parallel jaws clamps for glue-ups.
Chip Sawdust
Yup they'll be OK for "holding position" but not for "fit, damn you !"
