JohnG
Looks good! Miters look nice and tight And the inlays line up well. @gee-dub on here makes some beautiful frames. Mine stay pretty simple, but maybe I’m just afraid to try fancier ones!
wtnhighlander
Picture frames are more difficult than they appear, and turned some nice ones! Don't be afraid to jump into other projects that intoduce new challenges. Looks like you have 'the Knack'.

I have a table saw, jointer, planer and hardly any clamps haha...priorities are a little off.

Popular Post gee-dub
Looking good Ken. I find frames a great way to use small off cuts and those boards in the shop that you just had to get. Here’s a few of mine.

Ken Passey
Moving on to finish...for my first project they are OK but I for sure figured out all my mistakes that will make the process go faster next time. My biggest issue is the varathane spray poly made my purple heart react weird. Pictured below.
Coop
Absolutely no knowledge of Purple Heart but the frames look great.
Popular Post SawDustB
Picture frames are the perfect project for spray lacquer. You can put on 4-5 coats in a couple of hours, and it comes out very clear. I've also had good luck with it a few times on purple heart. It also will spray just fine in colder temperatures, so I usually spray it outside then bring it into the garage after it's dried for a few minutes.

gee-dub
For picture frames and other "low handling items" I use shellac as my go-to.
rodger.
I'm also a person who has built a zillion custom frames over the years. I typically use a dedicated sled, which is fantastic. It saves a tonne of time and is easy to build. https://www.finewoodworking.com/2012/08/07/specialized-miter-sled-picture-frames-series I almost always finish my frames with two coats of genera finishes HP poly in satin (via HVLP). It's my "go-to" finish for a lot of stuff, and it works great in this application. Nice looking work!
