Popular Post Tom King
It would have been better, if the Moon wasn't out, but we were lucky that it was not cloudy, anyway. The planets were just far enough apart that you could see that it was two objects, instead of one. I think any planet conjunction would have changed too fast as the planets moved, that it probably wasn't the Star of Bethlehem. When Pam, and I were first married, or rather the Summer before we were married, while I was building our house, we lived down there in a tent. there were Very few houses on the lake, and no lights in sight. We kept a Laser rigged up on the beach, and over on its side. I could just flip it up, and go sailing. We sailed out there on the lake in total darkness many nights. The red light in the picture is a cellphone tower. The phone wanted to take a 12 second exposure, so I rested it on the top of the Farm Use car. It was a lot darker than it looks in the picture. Maybe in another 800 years, we'll have better luck with the Moon not being up. Sorry the picture is upside down. I took a Sunset picture a couple of nights ago, and it also showed up here upside down, so I didn't post it. Too tired to figure out how to flip them now. I turned the phone over the other way to take the Conjunction picture, opposite from the way I took the Sunset picture, but it didn't help. Maybe one of the kind Moderators can flip them, if it's not too much trouble. I'll stick the Sunset picture here too. There was an opening under the clouds, so it reflected off the clouds, onto the calm lake.
wtnhighlander
We had a good view from the front porch, no telescoping equipment to make a decent photo. Cool to see, though.
Coop
With a cheap pair of binoculars, you can see that there are two separate stars. Pretty cool!
Mick S
Nice clear evening here outside Santa Fe. I pulled out my quick setup scope with a Televue Panoptic 35. Duly impressed! Lots of moons visible and Saturn was at a perfect inclination. Very, very cool.
Coop
Mick, does your setup include a camera where you can share pics?

I just used my travel scope last night. I don't have photographic capabilities. I'm sure there will be plenty of photos of it online, though, and much better ones than I could have taken. Tom King
I'm sure there will be some good pictures. Here, you could see with your eye that there were two separate things. They were moving fairly rapidly relative to each other. When I first went down there, Saturn was at about 3 o'clock, and probably in no more than 10, or 15 minutes, it was at about 1 o'clock. I expect they will be separated a lot more by tonight.
Tpt life
Perma-cloud and rain here. Typical Dec. evening. Hope many of the rest of you could enjoy it.
Mark J
Dense cloud cover here as well, so thanks for sharing your photo, Tom. (By the way, one way to get the image to post upright is to text it to your own phone, then download the received image).

Tom King
Tried it, and it didn't work. Flipped it in photo gallery, so it looks upside down on my computer, and that didn't work either.
Mark J
It works for me so I thought it would for you, too. Maybe it's different software or something. Sure wish we could get the upside down problem fixed.
Tom King
Rotated it right two more times in Photo Gallery.
Mark J
Someone explained this to me once. There's meta data associated with the picture that defines what is the top of the image. And this either has to be stripped off the image or put on, or something. What ever it is the forum software used to take care of it. Hurray! Tom, are you referring to Photo Gallery on your phone? Because my version doesn't have any rotate function. I take that back. I just found the function. Tom King
Photo Gallery in Windows 10. I figured most people would have that one, since it's built into 10. Right click on photo in folder, and select Open With, and choose Photo Gallery. Click on the picture, and select edit. Once in that edit, rotate right four times, close that window, and it will save that newest version of the shot. Rotate left may do the same thing, but I used "rotate right", and it worked, so will stick with that.
