Popular Post shaneymack
Today I started by making a story stick and and then transferred the lines to either side of the case interior. This will give me the location for the dados. I milled up the cherry for the drawer fronts and resawed. I used the story stick to mark out the drawer fronts and divider fronts. This will ensure that that front goes back together as one piece of wood. I used my square and lengthened the tick marks I made with the story pole. With all stopped dado centers marked out i clamped the sides back to back. For these stopped dados I figured the most efficient way would be to use the festool rail. I put the offset base on the of2200 I set the router up on the rail and made sure the path the router would take would be on my center line the whole way. Here is one done Good visibility and and great control using this setup. Perfect for stopped dados. Here are all three done. Clamped the two boards together to ensure the dados line up perfectly. I also got the poplar rough milled for the drawer frames. Next step, rabbeting the back of the case for the shiplapped back and building the internal frames. Chestnut
I thought we came to the conclusion earlier that Shaney is buying all his stuff and his tools are just for show. This is just him putting it together. Damn dude though this is looking really nice. Your shop furniture is nicer than my house furniture.

Popular Post shaneymack
Started today by cutting a rabbet in the case to accept the shiplapped back. The sides have stopped rabbets. The pin would have been too fragile had i run the rabbet all the way. I will notch the shiplapped boards there. Time to make the frames. I took two little scraps to take the internal measurement from dado to dado. Taped them together once i tested the measurement the entire length of the dados. Took to the mitre saw and set the stop. Quick and fool proof method Squared up the stopped dados and rabbets with chisel I cut the drawer front and dividers apart. Glued the cherry divider pieces to the poplar frame piece Dominoed the frames with 4mm dominos Glued them up Top three frames done Bottom front frame doesnt sit in a dado so i wanted to ensure a piston fit. Out came the shooting board Done for the day The upper space is only 7/8". It is to hold the front 3/4" lid when the toolbox is being used... Eric.
I'm confused...why do the web frames sit so far back from the front of the case? Looks great so far. Clean work as usual.

The drawers sit back the distance of the brass pulls+ clearance+ room for the 3/4" lid. All that together will give me a 1/8" reveal from lid to front of chest. The lid will be 3 raised panels in a frame with two pins at the bottom and a full mortise lock at the top. The small space you see above the top frame is to slide the lid into when the chest is in use.
sjk
Ok - I always thought of Canadians as laid back, beer drinking, moose loving folks with maple syrup in their veins. Shane - you're blazing through this build at a pace that makes me think you lot might be manic, quad-shot-espresso drinking, busy-beaver loving folks with nitrous in your veins. The tool chest is of course looking great

Lol Have any good advice on an apron? My family keeps bugging me about gifts that sounds like something that would be a good gift. For years and years i had the old beige lee valley one. It got so caked in glue it was time for a change. So naturally, I bought the festool one because it came in a mini systainer. Now this goes against eveything inside me to say but I believe there is a better apron out there! Lol. I will be changing it for the newer veritas one. The festool one has all open pockets and im sick of cleaning the sawdust out of them. I have my control for my dust collection in there and my ear protection and I hate having both always full of dust. So the important things to look for are that there are atleast some closed pockets and that the shoulder straps criss cross and join the waist strap so all the weight isnt always on your neck. I'm shocked i feel like we need to take you out back for 50 lashes for blasphemy.
