tom coleman
I ordered the Jessem Rout-R-2 lift for my Bosch 1617 in DIY benchtop table with an MDF top. I am leaning towards buying a better grade table top. I have a cash buyer in hand for my current table/fence/router at a good price. I am debating what router to buy for new table. I am just starting to investigate buying motor only. Must be 3 1/2 inch diameter
RichardA
There are some 3 1/4 hp motors available that might be better suited for a table mount. Check Triton, Bosch and Dewalt.
LazarusDB
Rockler is having a special on the PC 7518 through tomorrow, 9/1. Buy the router and get a $100 Rockler gift card.
Eric.
PC7518 is the gold standard for router tables.

pkinneb
Another vote for the PC 7518 I have had mine in a table for nearly 15 years now with zero issues.
Chet
I'll chime as a another person that is happy with the Porter Cable 7518.
ben_r_
Really no reason to go with anything other than the tried and true Porter Cable 7518. Unless you want to try some new product like the new variable speed Jessem: LINK
Woodenskye
Woodcraft also has the PC on sale. You can get just the motor or with the base.
Cheeset202
Thumbs up on the PC 7518, bought a used one about 10 years ago on EBay and it is still going strong.
Tom King
Sometimes you can find the big PC cheaper from CPO, for the whole router, than other places sell just the motor for. I bought two factory reburbished ones that looked like only the boxes had been opened. I thought maybe someone bought them, got scared when they opened the boxes, and sent them back. They've been troublefree.
bleedinblue
I'm not going to google it, but he does specify it HAS to be 3 1/2 inch diameter. I'd wager the 7518 is too large. I know it's the bees knees for tables, but assuming he needs that size to fit a lift he already has and doesn't want to replace, it's not going to work. wdwerker
The 7518 is 4.2" in diameter.
RichardA
Uh, couldn't he just ask Jessem?
bleedinblue
There's not much to ask Jessem, that lift is specifically for 3.5" router motors. This is from the Amazon: THIS MODEL IS DESIGNED FOR USE WITH PC 690/890, BOSCH 1617/1618, DEWALT 610/618/616, CRAFTSMAN 1754/17540/28190. I'd pick whichever of these has the highest HP, or return the lift for one that would work with the PC 7518. I'd guess that in this class of routers, you won't do much better than the Bosch 1617 you already have.
wdwerker
Yea of that list I would go with a Bosch.
Eric.
I have a pair of 690s for my dovetail jig and they're fine. They wouldn't be my first choice for a router table but they'll spin a bit. The big power and variable speed of the 7518 makes it ideal for a router table. wdwerker
The PC 690 does the job cutting 1/4 x 1/4 grooves with a power feeder but it wouldn't be my choice for a general router table. The Bosch is about as good as you can get in that size range.
