Popular Post Mark J
Bowl #17. I have titled it Half Moon. I finished this just before Christmas, but I didn't get around to setting up the photo booth for some pictures until this weekend. My lovely wife complimented it many times while I was making it, so when these had exceeded spousal duty I decided I'd better make it a gift to her for Christmas. I think it came off rather well, too. Similar process to those I've done before, but variation on the shape, it has a lot of intriguing perspectives when I started photographing it. Hard maple with Bartley Gel Varnish. Bowl #18 is on the lathe and I hope to have that done in the next week or two.

JohnG
Very cool and interesting! These complex turnings make my head spin when thinking about the process to make it, and making all the curves match or compliment eachother.

pkinneb
Ok you really need to do a build journal on one of these! That's amazing I can't even wrap my head around how you did it LOL
Chestnut
IIRC you used this method just augmented for a different shape?

Yes, the process is much the same as the Bird Bath Basin. I wrote up a sort of journal on the last bowl for my wood turning club. It's a Word document with imported pictures--sort of a poor man's PowerPoint, but unfortunately you can't attach a .doc file and If I copy and paste it the pictures don't come over--and there's like 50 of them.
Gary Beasley
That awesome, I would love to see one made. Ever think of making a video of it for Youtube?
Chestnut
If you host the images at a hosting site you could just paste the url into the word doc but that'd still be a decent amount of time for 50 images.
Mark J
OK, I did it. I posted the "slide show". Since it was about the previous bowl I added it to the that thread. If you want take a look, but warning it is long.
Pondhockey
I really like how turning shows off wood figure, and sometimes enhances it. Does anything do it better?
Coop
You’re right in most cases as it’s actually uncontrolled per my turning buddy as you never know what the figure will be at the end of the last turn.
