mdbuilder
Thanks guys! Drawer gluing is going one at a time as I only have one set of clamps appropriately sized for the big drawers by the time I add some 3/4" cauls to get the pressure on the dovetails. mdbuilder
Back to panel glue ups. I sliced through most of the middle of various width 3/4'ish boards with a thin kerf blade then ran the remainder through the bandsaw. Worked really well.
Popular Post mdbuilder
Spent the day fabricating drawer bottoms, sanding to thickness, crosscutting to length and cutting the 8 degree bevels on three sides. Got the too two small drawers fitted and the bottom big drawer. Took a surprising amount of time, did have to cut the grass as well
Popular Post mdbuilder
I must say, that is one ugly drawer bottom. The other 4 are nicer. Fabrication is pretty much over. Got a bunch of fitting and details left. Drawer stops still need to go in. Need to plane the pins and sockets off the drawers sides, plane the drawer backs. Cleanup that burn mark on the top rear edge and round over the sides and front of the top.
pkinneb
BTW I can't even see that drawer bottom anymore Looks great! 1
mdbuilder
Drawer stops, I carefully selected a scrap from my 3 pound (!!) supply of leather and 5 minute epoxied a clamped together stack of stops. After curing the excess was trimmed off with a #11 blade and then the stack was flexed open and each stop sliced off one by one. Mini-sled modified to knock the corners off each stop

Popular Post mdbuilder
Just a little bit of shock absorbing. Antique version of the soft close drawer slide 4
mdbuilder
All but the bottom drawers now have stops. Needed to add 2 filler blocks on the bottom for those 2 stops to rest on. Still need a bit of work on the reveals but it is coming together.
mdbuilder
Edge profile on the top is done, other than a bit more fine tuning on the drawer fits, construction is done. On to sanding once my order for a few different grits arrives.
mdbuilder
Little bit of shop cleanup last night. Spent 40 minutes or so cutting an enormous number of 30-48" long narrow scraps up into 12" or so lengths that easily fit in the trash bin. Let the sanding begin
Chestnut
I hope this isn't too contentious but i never understood the dual pull. In my experience i usually have 1 hand full and dual pulls just leads to stuck drawers. Also is there a reason you didn't align them with the top drawer pulls? I'm trying to decide visually if one would be better than the other? Or are you just following the plans?
mdbuilder
Just following the plans - yes Also, quick google search shows the spacing difference between single narrow and wide drawers is pretty much what you find.
Chestnut
May have misunderstood. Even on wide drawers i use a center pull. I feel 2 pulls results in poor 1 hand operation and just leads to binding. Yes I'm doing it wrong use 2 hands? But when the top is piled with stuff and my arms are full i usually only have 1 hand free.
mdbuilder
Yep, got it. Guess if you are building your own stuff you can do it whatever way seems right to you Yet most commercial furniture definitely has two pulls or knobs on wide drawers. Maybe ask the average women if they prefer 1 or 2 pulls on a 3 foot wide drawer overloaded with 20 pounds of sweaters?

That's a good point but more of a knock on their furniture i guess, if you need 2 hands to open it something is wrong with the drawer. My requirement was effortless sliding regardless of the hardware. This leads me to waxed hardwood slides. I don't think there is any thing more effortless than waxed hardwood slides. The drawers pictured are heavy but slide very easy. And yes i have a reminder to wax them every other year, and am more than happy to do so. I really like your leather soft close stop though. That's a great idea. I did rubber bumpers but I'd bet the leather would offer a better feel.
