Popular Post Coop
Yep, for the second time and this time I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as the first time. I painted a piece of furniture that I built! My wife asked me to build her an armoire to fit in our newly remodeled and enlarged bedroom. I got goosebumps, thinking walnut or cherry. Then she pulls up a Pinterest or something equally as disgusting photo of one that had been painted and glazed. Almost 50 years of being happily married flashed across my mind and never has she asked for something that distasteful. But as faithful as she has been, I knew if I didn’t, another guy would. I built it from poplar and stain grade birch ply with at least a solid maple, unpainted drawer box! Doors and drawer front are inset with self closing European Blum hinges on the doors and soft closing under-mount glides for the drawers. Both of which are also a first and not the last. Due to overhead lighting, the shelf edges look lighter than the interior. At least it’s finally finished and out of my shop.

Subservience is considered survival knowledge. Well done.
wtnhighlander
Nicely executed, Coop! Be warned, painting your furniture is a very liberating. As in, it becomes very easy to fix mistakes with a 'liberal' amount of filler...
Chet
That came out real nice Coop. More importantly your wife is probably happy. Lets just hope you didn't screw up in reverse and it came out so nice that she'll want a a matching dresser.
Coop
Thank goodness that the bed and dresser are fairly new and walnutish! She did allow me to build her a night stand on her side from real walnut!

Even after using some Bondo filler in a few places, paint sure brings out the fine mistakes which I refuse to disclose!
Mark J
Well, the woodworking and the paint both look well done.
Popular Post gee-dub
+1 on a good job. That came out very nicely. I have made a few pieces for the wife out of red oak. The combination of my age and being a native Californian makes red oak scream "Unfinished Furniture Shop" and "Waterbed Warehouse" at me . The modern equivalent would probably be Crate and Barrel. Despite my aversion to 'golden oak' finishes, LOML has what she wants and I consider making sure that happens as one of my primary duties .
Chestnut
Looks awesome. I couldn't have done it in your shoes, I'd have saved my time for something different and went to the store and let the professionals do the painting. The door details and molding details make this look really professional. Nice touch coop. Are you sure you didn't buy this from Pottry barn barrel store? 1
Coop
After sinking as much into wood, hinges and drawer glides as I did, not counting the friggin hours, there’s no way I could outsource the paint job. At this point it was sink, swim or burn pile and living in the city, burning would have meant a citation, an added cost!
TerryMcK
Pinterest needs to be banned on your internet router Ken. I get the same “ideas” pointed my way by my wife too. So far I have (mainly) resisted.
Popular Post Coop
I put my foot down, no more painted projects! And I plan on telling her when I catch her in a good mood! 1 1
Popular Post Mark J
Maybe do it when you're in a public place. 1
