Ronn W
OK. So my 5" Ridged ROS is in for warranty repairs ( has been for 3 weeks now.) Parts on on back order and I am thinking that I need another 5" ROS as a back up. Rather than by another Rigid. What decent similar priced sanders might our guys recommend? Tom King
I don't find much difference in them. I have Bosch, Milwaukee, and Dewalt 5". I wouldn't say any one is better than the other. I'd just get whatever you can find on sale, or some kind of good deal. Back when I was building new houses, I had several Makita ones, each marked for a particular grit. Those did a lot of work too, but all the switches failed from dust. I expect they probably changed the design since then, but I went to other manufacturers. I will say the Dewalt has done Way more than I would expect one to. It was used for sanding old plaster, in the midst of a dust storm for many hours, and is still working. My most used sander these days is a monster 6" Bosch, which puts ROS's near the realm of belt sanders, but leaves a finished surface. It's a Beast, and has very good dust collection.
Chestnut
I had a dewalt one it worked pretty good. I think Coop just got one like what i had.

wtnhighlander
If you have already invested into a cordless platform, I'd suggest looking at a sander to work with those batteries. My cordless, brushless ROS has turned out to be extremely handy at times. Really great as a backup to the corded one, of for touch-up work where portability is key. G Ragatz
Happy with my DeWalt corded, 5+ years - but it doesn't really see a ton of use.
Coop
I just purchased the DeWalt 5” as a backup and it has an improved dc bag over my last one. About $60 or so.

BillyJack
If your ROS and paper is working I would buy the same sander and have two.. I use PC 332-333 and will always use these models with the assortment of paper I have. Changing paper or ROS can lead to better or worse results.. For me I hear the Dewalt 5" replaced the PC 5" as its no longer available to the cabinet shops. I'm looking for a used one In a pawn shop to confirm this.
