Popular Post Mark J Posted April 2 Popular Post Report Posted April 2 Here is my latest piece. I've made several "sculptural" bowls in the past, but this is a true sculpture. This was my submission to the American Association of Woodturners POP exhibition and auction. The theme for this year's POP is "holding space". Alas, my piece was not selected by the jury for inclusion in the exhibition/auction . Each submission needs an artist's statement tieing the work to the show's theme. Here is mine: In ray streaked light of early morn, The new one, the little one is born. The Guardians gather, holding space. Hands encircle the protected place. Securely in a haven found. Assured by a promise sound. It's walnut and about 6x6x6. 11 Quote

wtnhighlander Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 Well made, aptly named, and a cool poem to boot! How that missed the pick is beyond me. 1 1 Quote
Von Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 Very cool! Echoing others, my mind boggles trying to figure out how you made it. Is it a lot of freehand carving? On a lathe? Or...? 1 Quote
Mark J Posted April 3 Author Report Posted April 3 @Von It's mostly lathe work. After the basic shape was achieved the four sides were cut back. I used a band saw to remove the bulk, then worked to the line with a Dremel and a little sanding drum. 1 1 Quote
