Popular Post treeslayer
no plans shane, kind of reverse engineered it from a picture i saw of a similar chair from the 1950's and thought it would be cool to build for the grandkids. tons of trial and error to get it right but i've made about 30 of them now and have my time down to about 7 hours per chair. i will post some pictures of the templates ross, kind of new at this journal thing and will add more detail as i go along, thanks for looking
..Kev
These are looking great! Maybe you could sell the templates
wdwerker
If you have built 30 of these I would love to see the templates and watch over your shoulder as you build one ! Just think of what questions you would ask if you were interested in building one. That's the way to do a journal.

If this comes out as well as I suspect, I may try and talk the wife into having another little so I can build one?

wdwerker
It took me several attempts to figure out posting pictures. I had to download an app that let me resize the picture to get under the max size limits. I post from my iPad so I am no help with other formats. Lord knows there is no shortage of tech experience around here.

Since we can't get any progress pics from Dave, I thought I would share my progress. Her side of the conversation, cleaned up quiet a bit went something like: "Are you friggin crazy? Stay the heck away from me!" I took that to mean more shop time for me! Now I have all the more reason for getting my tools (except for one) dusted off. Thanks Dave.

Coop
Dave, The cutter and jig setup are really cool. I didn't know such an animal existed. Great progress so far.
treeslayer
thanks ken, i think that cutter is from rockler, woodcraft has one that i think is a little better, they come in different sizes (diameter and length). i had to have the neighbor put my drill press table on his lathe and turn the diameter of the hole bigger so i could get a 3/4" square piece thru it in order to make the jig work
Popular Post treeslayer
not much progress today, life kind of got in the way-out i did get some dry fitting done, this is the top of the seat underside of the seat, center round is glued in, front and back pieces have to be loose to spin when the chair is folded upthe back of the chair, the top piece will be laser engraved with the childs name

wdwerker
Impressive set of parts. Genius set up for the stepped round tenons. I want to see the method to make the curved grooved sides.
treeslayer
hey steve, the curved sides are and arms i use double stick tape and pattern router them from the templates and drill the holes while stuck together. as for the groove i thought about that one for a long time, i could have made a template of some sort and used a router and guide bushing but it got kind of stupid because the parts are so small, how to hold them ect. so i settled on what you see. a piece of particle board with a 1/4" dowel 3/8" of an inch away from a 1/4" spiral up-cut bit. i mark start and stop points and plunge in, i keep the cut square to the curve and it seems to work pretty good, i know there are 10 different ways to do this but my head hurt overthinking it, Ross, there are only two templates one for the arms and one for the sides, the rest comes off of my print
Popular Post treeslayer
metal work today, man i hate working with that stuff, start with 1 3/4" square tubing cut 1" pieces on the TSdrill all necessary holes cut to 1 1/2 length again on the TSround the cut off ends on the belt sander, the long pieces are the rear leg supports prime and paint, i like the dark green with the cherryprime and paint, like the dark green with the cherry, slight delay of game while i wait for bolts from the Bolt Depot and get the top laser engraved, 3-4 day wait and i should be able to finish this up
