Glen Bridges
I'm in the market for a planer. I've been looking around and all I'm finding in stores are 12 1/2" planers. I was wanting a 13" planer. I wanted to start my next project this week, but if I have to order it I'm gonna lose a few days. This is just a hobby, not counting the price. Is losing a 1/2" worth getting it now. All opinions welcomed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
..Kev
The Dewalt 735 is the benchmark for lunch box planers! I have the Grizzly lunchbox and am just waiting for it to die to add the 735 to my shop. If you wish to step above that, go to a 15 and 220V.
Coop
Glenn, if used correctly, you'll never miss the 1/2".
treeslayer
glen, i wouldn't worry about losing a few days, do a search here if you like but the wisdom given by Kev is right on, you won't regret it and the 735 will serve you for a long time
Chet
Yep! The 735 is great I am really pleased with mine. When it comes to my fingers and power tools I don't want anything with the number "13" attached to it.
Ronn W
I agree with all of the above. It is unlikely that you will miss the 1/2". The DeWalt 735 is a great machine. It has a fan the expels the chips thru a 4" diameter port so that even without a dust collector or shop vac you can direct the chips into a bucket. Saves a lot of cleanup time.
bleedinblue
Uhhh....is the 735 not a 13 inch planer? I have the 734, which is 12 1/2 inches. It's certainly good enough and the extra 1/2" doesn't make a difference to me. The dust fan in the 735 would be nice though, with the 734 not hooked up to a proper dust collector, and only to my shop vac, it continuously shoots chips out of the infeed side. The 735 is just an over all better machine from everything I've read. If we're purely talking about size though, 12 1/2 vs. 13 inches isn't enough of a difference to factor in, in my opinion.
Brendon_t
I have 13" and could easily get by with 12.5. With that said, from what I've read and seen, yes. The 735 is far superior.
RichardA
With the 735, you can always do this!
wtnhighlander
Another vote for the 735. Beware, it is a 95 lb beast to move around the shop. Glenn, if used correctly, you'll never miss the 1/2". Chestnut
I'm going to add my peer pressure to the 735. It really is that good. I have one as well and if you hear anything about the blades not being that great don't listen to it they are just fine.
jplemons
Depends on budget. If you need lower price than I think the DW 734 is great. If you have the money, the DW 735 is the consensus favorite. I like my 734 hooked up to a dust collector just fine.
