Popular Post Cochese
I'm sure this isn't the first one of these on WTO, but I thought I'd share mine. Links to products are not mine, and may not be in stock when you read this. Descriptions will accompany. What you'll need: Braided hose wrap (sometimes called PET Expandable sleeving) Heat shrink tubing Heat gun Scissors Time needed: approximately 10 minutes I ordered my hose wrap from a dealer in China, and it is marked as 40mm, 5m length. http://www.ebay.com/itm/322119357744?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&var=511042101153&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Look for something similarly marked. 5m will be plenty for a 27mm to 35mm tapered hose, such as one that comes with the CT Midi. This hose shortens as the diameter gets bigger, and lengthens as the wider diameter isn't needed. I ended up with about 3-4 feet left over, but I ended mine short because of how the Midi has it's hose port at the top. You can get something similar from a Festool dealer like Festoolproducts, but you will be paying more. Mine ran $11.99 + $0.99 shipping (three weeks). This is what it looks like when it arrives: As you can see, the ends fray easily. It will only get worse when it is on your hose and there is a cord involved. This is where the heat shrink tubing comes into play. I bought 50mm, 1m length from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MJVQR7I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This is 2:1 shrink ratio, so it will work just fine. $4.99 when ordered, and will do enough for at least three hoses. Because the sleeve is expandable in diameter to some extent, you'll need to snake it on your hose. Take a flathead screwdriver and remove one end of the hose, and put the entire length on your hose and cord. I went from the tool side, having the tapered hose. Because I had to wait an extra couple days for the heat shrink, the end of my braided sleeve frayed even worse, so I cut off about two inches for a fairly fresh edge. I sized the length of cord I needed longer than the hose to reach a couple of tools, slid a ~4" section of the heat shrink (it cuts very easily), and tried to get an even amount over bare hose and the sleeve. Then I used the heat gun to shrink it down. Be careful you don't deform your hose. The end product might move around very slightly, but I don't see it coming loose. Now that your business end is secure, you'll need to slide your hand down the hose to reduce the diameter of the sleeve, while lengthening the distance. Trim the sleeve to your desired length (longer for front-entry hoses), and repeat the heat shrink on this end to cover the end of the sleeve. That's...pretty much it. The sleeve slides over everything I've tried. Taking the slack out of the diameter is important for it to slide, and it also reduces the space between the weaves, making it less prone to tearing. I went and bought a heat gun for this so my total cost was slightly higher, but I needed one anyway. I never used heat shrink before, and it couldn't have been easier. Don't overthink this, do it. I'll be doing it again on my Bosch hose in a few weeks. Before taking the slack out (you can see the rail through it): Tool end: Vac end:
wdwerker
I just used green masking tape to hold the mesh sleeve on my hose.
Cochese
That's an option too. I just wanted to be fancy.

Cochese
Thanks Dave, look forward to seeing yours. I was finally able to check how it worked on my OF1400, and am pleased to say it just does. If I redo that end, I'll come back just a hair or have just a touch more cord slack. Popular Post Chestnut
Just got mine installed on the hose. Running the cord along the hose made the hose a lot less annoying.
Cochese
Looks like plenty of room for all the different tool hookups too. Nice.
Chestnut
Well i'll probably only ever have 3 but yeah i left some room. I just used electrical tape so i can remove it and adjust if needed. This was a good recommendation.

I know others have done the sleeve, but I wasn't aware of anyone combining it with heat shrink. So, I don't want you getting in trouble claiming I had an original idea here. Combining the tape and the heat shrink might be a good idea too. I don't think the sleeve will work it's way out under the heat shrink, and the shrink doesn't appear to be in danger of catching on anything or tearing. Would be some insurance if it did though. wtnhighlander
I'd recommend this over an adhesive tape: https://www.amazon.com/Rescue-Tape-Self-Fusing-Silicone-Rectangular/dp/B00AZOK55G

Chestnut
The only thing that i wish that i had done was left the sleeve a bit further back from the vac end. Using my domino tonight the cord had to loop back and it's a bit annoying.
