Mike T
Hello to all, I'm an old guy (62) who's just really hoping to get serious about woodworking. I'm in the process of developing my shop. It will be approx 700 sq ft. climate controlled so that I can enjoy it year round. I've got a dewalt contractors saw which I am planning on putting into a table saw/router cabinet and equipping it with a new fence system (looking at VSC tools upgrade) at least until I find I can't live without a first rate cabinet saw. (Any good plan suggestions welcome). Btw shop furniture will be my first projects including tool stands/cabinets and wall cabinets. Want to make these asthetically pleasing and durable. Not only will they look good but give me needed practice doing jointerery and other practice. I've got a list started for stocking my shop with tools that is forever expanding. These include, but not limited to track saw, router, band saw, planner, jointer, miter saw and what I'm learning is an ever growing list of hand tools. Funds are limited but not invisible. (Just more over time) I want top quality in every area. Any suggestions will of course be appreciated. While my woodworking experience is limited to a couple of courses at a community college, it did produce a couple of projects that I really liked and found I loved working with wood. I'm at the age (without sounding morbid) that leaving behind a legacy seems very appealing. The guild is in my future but for now I need to focus on the shop itself. Glad to be aboard and hope y'all can help guide me on this journey. Thanks Mike T

Popular Post Chet
Welcome to the forums Mike. Like Richard said there are a number of us playing the senior circuit here. Shop furniture is definitely a good way to work on some of the skills. If you can find birch of maple pre-finish ply in your area it will save you some time on finishing shop furniture. One caution. In building a cabinet and adding a fence to a job site saw can cause you to spend maybe half of what you would need to save to get a nice cabinet saw. Just price it out before you dive in.
Mike T
Wow. That was a large welcoming party. Thanks very much. Good point Chet I'll give that some thought. For all us season folks here; isn't it amazing how time just slips away. It all goes by in a blink.
Coop
Welcome Mike to the forum! I would definately consider what Chet has to offer about the upgrade on the saw, especially if the budget allows it. Congrats on the new shop, 700 sq. Ft. ain't too shabby. Mike T
Yeah I already know that. I'm hoping "top quality" doesn't always mean top price. Just want to do it the best I can and not invest in cheap junk that will just frustrate me in the end. I'm not very artistic so I figure I'll need all the assistance good quality tools can give me. For all us season folks here; isn't it amazing how time just slips away. It all goes by in a blink. I live in south central Oklahoma USA. Lived here the last 12 years but originally from California. Wanted a change when I moved here. Definitely got it. Less expensive for sure but I hate summer.
Gnarlywoodguy
I think some of the popular YouTube woodworkers are having a meet up in OK pretty soon. Check out Jay Bates. He is becoming quite skilled and I believe he is involved. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
