Popular Post Michael Kolodner
Hello all, Have been enjoying TWW for some time now and decided to say hello and let everyone on this forum know how much I've enjoyed reading posts and learning from many of the helpful replies and very very few snarky comments here on TWW. Refreshing! I decided two years ago to build a woodworking shop when I added an extension on to my garage here. It's a work in progress and gave me the chance to trade in my '50's Delta antique combination table saw, jointer, drill press and stock the shop with modern safe tools and machinery. Aside from building out the shop, my first project was a built-in wall unit in my den for my wife (even before I finished building out the shop). Here's pictures of unit. Made everything but the drawer and door pulls. Made my share of mistakes along the way, but it was a great leaning experience that produced a lot of scrap material for the cut-off shelves in my shop! Finally got back to the shop build out and am working on a hybrid woodworking bench I designed based on ideas from benches from Robert Lang's 20th Century Workbench, and Chris Schwarz's August 2002 article in Popular Woodworking on "Power Tool Workbench". Hope to post that soon.
Chet
Welcome Michael. Glad you decided to join us. The snarky thing does happen at times and it is mostly amongst friends here. The wall unit looks great, very nicely done. Oh and feel free to post some pictures of the shop as it is now and as you progress. We like see what others have come up with. Michael Kolodner
Thanks all. Been having some email glitches here, but I will definitely post some of my shop build out pictures.

Michael Kolodner
Behind the bay door showing potting bench (built with an old formica counter), sink and small garden tools. Use this area for assembly of cabinets or other large projects.
Michael Kolodner
Built this bench first. Birch plywood with oak trim and MDF torsion box top. The pull out drawer holds my crosscut sled and Festool parallel guides. Have a 6' 15A power strip above the bench, which is opposite from the miter station and wood cut off rack. Michael Kolodner
Miter station with shelves for cutoffs and storage. Drawers for storing screws, painting and finishing supplies, corner clamps other hardware and stuff I don't need all the time. All within a few steps of workbench, table saw, drill press and hand tools.
Michael Kolodner
Clamp racks I built on wall next to the table saw. That doorway is 4' wide and goes into the adjacent assembly area, which I can also use for finishing and bringing materials into the shop. Break down plywood sheets with track saw. There is another 4' doorway on the opposite wall that leads directly into the main 2 car garage that I can also use for material loading/unloading and as an additional assembly area. All the floors are on the same level so I can wheel machines around as needed.

I plan on making the same one soon. Nice shop, very well thought out

Michael Kolodner
Thanks. Festool makes such high quality precision tools. I'm using more and more metric measurements because of them- much tighter fits with mm than imperial measurement. My favorite tools are the track saw and the domino, but I'm doing more and more with my hand tools these days. Last image is hand tool rack- it will ultimately get replaced with a shallow wall cabinet that I plan to build. Also building a woodworking bench that will double as an outfeed for the table saw and also as an assembly area. I added a Benchdog cast iron router table extension to the left side of the table saw and put in an Incra router lift that lets me do all the height adjustments from the top of the table. Have made some other changes since these pictures were taken. The more time I spend working in there the more I get ideas on how to make the layout more efficient and get better use of the space. Will post more pictures after I get the new workbench done.
Michael Kolodner
That is based on Tom Wilmots bench, but with some changes (like the pull out shelf).

This can be a on going process. I wish I had taken pictures every time I had changed something in the shop. It would be an interesting stack of photos to flip through.
