Just another tool my friend Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice tool. I have a nice workflow with it now, so it's just part of the flow. Raising/lowering the planer bed has become second nature. Just measure the thickness, turn the knob and bam... start working. It's such a nice thing though. I really love having it.

Llama
Some update. Decided to take this a bit slower than I really wanted to. This has to be perfect, so I'm taking no chances. Marked out the top, used my carved jigsaw to make notches then used a chisel to knock out the waste. Now I'm in the process of flushing it up with the OF1400 router. I love the rail setup for this thing. Took a 1/4" pass to make sure I was on my line, and am going to clean the rest up in two passes. Then the plan is to hit it with some sand paper. OK... back to work!
Eric.
Seeing that router backwards like that makes me dizzy.

Llama
Worried about tearing this out, so I made some cuts with my DT saw. Then, scribed a line, hit it with my chisel and did the wedgie trick to it. Still not super excited about routing this. I might do it all by hand. Wouldn't take too long, and it's not really that bad. Fan on, music on, tap tap tap...

Eric.
Not sure I'd wanna chisel it, being a show surface and all. Likely you'll separate some fibers doing that. I don't think you'll have router issues if your bit is sharp and you take a very light final pass. Test cut. That's a lot of chiseling.

If not, I'd use a spiral upcut with the workpiece topside down so that if it does chip it will chip on the bottom edge.

Popular Post Llama
Decided to just go for it... sort of... after staking the profile out, I decided to just use the 3/4" CMT straight bit to take a very shallow pass to establish the cut line. Then, I just kept pushing down 1/4" at a time until the routing was done. No problems at all. The underside DC "cup thingy" barely fit due to the type of cut. I had to go about 90% across, then turn the router off, move the cup, then route some more. DC was flawless! very pleased. Sides and front are done. Some light sanding and some rounding over, and the top is done. On to finish the legs. Then, I can measure and build the case. Lot of work left on this one!
