bushwacked
These are one sale again, like always. https://www.woodpeck.com/portamatestoragerack.html?_bta_tid=18014360385476421803960484186606120963643805015744201440505635502384651345012072329328318365378664833307&_bta_c=59omsllf6uaz9uhg0kz6nn465azd7 I was thinking I may now get them or maybe 2 but I cant figure out how much weight they actually could hold. They say: Quote The recommended mounting distance between the rails is 4-6 feet, but can vary depending on your specific needs. If your material is shorter, you can certainly mount them close together (we’ve even heard of people using these to store guitars). Made from powder coated 1-inch steel tubing, there’s a 100lb capacity for each level, meaning you need not worry about heavier items or boards. It’s also fine for outdoor use – it can be mounted to almost anything (even a fence) to bring six levels of storage anywhere you need it. With the exception of masonry anchors, all necessary hardware is included. Includes 2 vertical supports and 12 horizontal supports to provide 6 levels of storage. 100lb capacity per level ... to me that does not seem like all that much when you start stacking wood. Should I look into get maybe 2 sets, so I would have 4 columns and giving me 200lbs per level .... if that is how the math actually works out?? bushwacked
LOL! I was thinking of doing that, but will the price of materials be about the same as the sale price (I would need to buy materials as I do no have any extra at the moment)

But you'll end up with much better and bigger racks. I have the Portamates in my shed and the shop-made racks in my shop. The shop-made ones are superior in every way.

A little time picking thru the pile to find some straight (or close) lumber pays off. I called to see what my current local prices were on DF 2X material and I could build a set of racks for about 8 or 10 bucks depending on size. Lee Valley carries the set and when they have free shipping thats the best deal around on them that I have found: LINK They are actually made by Knape and Vogt: LINK Also the Portamate product sometimes goes on sale at Home Depot for around $20. I have bought them there before for that price: LINK
wdwerker
I used those double standards with old metal grocery store shelves in my old shop. I need to rent some scaffolding to put them up in the new place. 16 ft ceilings.......
Tom King
Steve, I don't normally loan tools, but if you were closer, you would be welcome to borrow all the scaffolding you need. Lowes had those portamate racks on sale for 19.99, a while back, and would probably be worth checking to see their deal now. I like them just fine. Sawdustdad
I put up shelf brackets from HD/Lowes. Lagged to studs.
