When you build outside the box, it becomes your personal design, rather than one of those. kinda like a patented design, you’ll change it just enough to make it yours, but not so much it doesn’t work. In my case, I don’t care and make it upside down if it pleases me.

Kinda like the guy who jumped off the building. By the 3rd floor he yells, “ so far so good”

Thats me , just hanging in there..

I probably won’t get back on this project till late fall. I’m still debating on the “Good, Bad and the Ugly” theme. This table doesn’t really have a plan..

I know this is a little off-topic since the discussion has deviated from the original post, but I just wanted to express my admiration. Building a poker table sounds like a fun project to tackle. I'm sure it'll turn out great, and you'll have a fantastic new table to play on. Plus, it's always satisfying to create something with your own hands. I would love to play at the poker table, but all the establishments in my town have closed due to the pandemic. So I started playing at Spin Casino at , as it's a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the kids. Happy building!

Thanks for the information!

It's great to hear that you've found a creative project to tackle during your downtime. Building a poker table can be a rewarding endeavor, and it's a fantastic way to channel your interests and skills. I'm sure the end result will be something to be proud of.

There were two tables on Marketplace hand made for $2500+. A table out of pine with a torch taken to it and chip trays was $2500 with a KC chief top.

Thinking ahead…I need to drill large holes for my cup holders, but my chuck started falling out. I’m not sure After attempts to lock it in with force, I’m lost at what to do…

Have you cleaned the tapers on the drill and the chuck well? Perhaps with acetone to remove oils?

yea I’ve cleaned it, but large bits with vibration seem to jar it loose

I have tried to drill a 3" hole with a Forstner on the DP and lathe, but either the bit slips in the chuck or the chuck slips in the quill.  Typically I have to pre-drill a 1" hole, then 1 1/2", then 2", and 2 1/2".

Use a router, flush trim bit and a template to get the hole started, then use the hole itself as the template to get as deep as you need?

That would be the hard way. It’s easy using the drill press and hole saw bits..

I’d use a hole saw mounted into your dp.

That’s how I do it…
