Popular Post BillyJack
I decided to start a porch swing. Using several of the Adirondack patterns I'll notch out for the bottom support at the bandsaw.

Chet
What type of wood are you using?
BillyJack
Treated for the frame, Sapele for everything you touch. Somewhat similar in design to this one..
wtnhighlander
I haven't built any outdoor furniture yet. How much 'joinery' can you get away with, before seasonal movement blows it apart? Is it best to stick with mostly butt joints and SS screws?
BillyJack
When I do Adirondack gliders I allow the PT to dry all summer and partial winter. This was a today project, so I used left over pieces from the fence and a few of my Adirondack stock that was still drying. This is why I sat it outside. I know this wood will shrink a bit before finished. Now understanding what It can do is better than going to the big box and buying fresh wet PT and trying to make furniture from it. Im a bit early bird on this, but I want it yesterday. So I’m gonna sun bake it till I need to apply the Sapele.. The price for a galvanized bolt was I think 80 cents. Stainless was $2.39-$2.79. This will be covered epwith a small HF tall during the season and completely wrapped and moved out of weather for winter..

BillyJack
I’m going to call this the hurricane porch swing as heavy as it is. Sapele is a really nice wood, it sands good me, band saws good, table saws good, drills good… But it’s a heavy wood..

legenddc
Wow, I missed this thread. I thought it was the one where you were looking for plans. Seems like it's coming together very nicely and you'll be sitting and swinging soon!
