prov163
When my wife was 9 years old, her family lived on Okinawa as her father was stationed there. One evening he gave her this oriental doll. He died a couple of months later. She has been kept in a bread bag, in the back of a closet for years. I decided she deserved better (my wife and the doll) so a project was born. When she came home today it was mounted on the wall as a surprise. I made a shelf out of walnut and what I think is wormy chestnut (years ago a friend gave me some rough cut lumber but I didn't ask what it was and he's dead now). The display case is quarter sawn oak and Purple Heart. Here are a few photos.

Janello
So much nicer than a bread bag! Love the oriental flare you put on the shelf brackets that bookend the box.
Popular Post prov163
Thanks guys. It was a lot of fun to make me I got to try some new techniques so it was a learning experience too. RichardA, she was a little overwhelmed by mixed emotions. She was flooded with memories of her dad and at the same time sadness that he's gone. For me it was one of those moments you get far too few of in life. I'm a lucky man to have such an amazing wife and it was a real special opportunity to give back a little. Janello, thanks. I'm forcing myself to use more curves, so I designed this with gentle curves hoping it would have just a little oriental flair. I jokingly told my wife it was fun helping a "bag lady" become a home owner. Hope that wasn't too politically incorrect.

rodger.
It would be cool to do something with the breadbag too. Maybe frame the logo section of the bag. The bag is part of the story too!
