Dnorris1369
This is probably a strange question. In anticipation of my shop build I'm gonna purchase a sawstop. My dilemma is I have a woodcraft and klingspor nearby(45 min away). I shop at both and like the guys at both. Should I buy from one or the other or online? Advantages either way?? Chet
Have you actually checked with your Woodcraft, do they actually sell them in store? My Woodcraft does not sell them in store. They will order it for you and have it shipped direct to your place.
Dnorris1369
Yes they have them there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Chet
Online you are going to have shipping and because it is probably going to be shipped freight it could be a lot $$$. I think you are going to find the price is the same everywhere so shipping is the thing.
Brendon_t
Have You compared TYD prices of all three options? If you don't have a truck, renting a u haul for a few hours would probably be cheaper than freight shipping.
estesbubba
ACME says free shipping but adds $250 to the price. All online SawStop retailers charge $250 for shipping and local taxes are usually cheaper.
Dnorris1369
the prices look about the same both offering the 200 dust collection or mobile base option for free from sawstop I guess i was asking more in case i have any problems with saw or setup or warranty Or maybe all this would be handled directly with sawstop if it comes up? minorhero
Warranty problems would go through sawstop. From that standpoint it doesn't matter. I have a woodcraft near me that I like quite a bit. If I were planning a large tool purchase I would do it through them just because I like giving them my business. Jerry_in_SD
When I bought my PCS Sawstop from Rockler a few years back, they happened to have a PCS in stock on a pallet but the price would have been the same had they had to order it. If ordered, I would pick up from the store anyway. I rented a truck with lift gate and a pallet jack to get it home.
AstroDave
I bought my Sawstop from the local Woodcraft. They earned my business and are great guys..
Oceandragon
Online business models are diffrent than local brick and morter stores and the company would track its those metrics seperately, if you like the guys there at the store and are willing to forego any online specials, id say purchase from the store and do em a solid, let em know what you did, I think it will foster a better local relationship and could be beneficial for both parties. Also if im not mistakes woodcrafts are franchines, yep they are (further proof to support your local econ) indeed. http://www.woodcraftfranchise.com/
CessnaPilotBarry
Which SawStop? As far as I know, not all models can be ordered online in the typical fashion. All of my local guys, two long time independent tool shops and a Woodcraft, had the PCS and ICS in stock for touchee-feelie, but purchases were optioned out (motor, fence, base...) and ordered in. They could not be shipped directly to me. The Woodcraft store did stock a Contractor saw for immediate delivery, the indies didn't have that version available for viewing. andrew-in-austin
For those who ordered [and picked up] from Woodcraft local store, did you still have to pay a $250 shipping fee?
dwacker
Personally I would check with cposawstop. I ordered and entire shop full of bigger PM machines from their PM site all free shipping and great service. PM rep spoke highly of them when I call and asked them to suggest a dealer.
Tom Cancelleri
I bought my large lathe and drill press from cpo. Great company to deal with.
Dnorris1369
I talked to the guys at woodcraft today they seem like some good guys. They said they'd store it for me until I finish my shop. Think that's the way I'll go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

estesbubba
I did... The two indies also would have charged the fee. Wow...paying tax plus shipping would suck. I bought mine from a local woodworking store and didn't pay shipping plus they held on to the saw for 4 months until my shop was built. There was no choice with an ICS, regardless of where I purchased it... My two local indies are long-time mail order companies who predate the web, but I like to spread my business around. If a mail-order or out of state vendor doesn't collect sales tax in my state, we have to perjury ourselves on our state tax form. On a $4600 purchase, I would have paid the tax even if the vendor didn't collect it. I have too much to lose to poke at the beast.

I actually considered driving to New Hampshire to buy mine so I could avoid both tax and shipping. Decided it was too much hassle and ordered from Acme. Paid shipping but no tax. They make you declare all internet purchases on your state tax forms so that they can tax you on them...
drzaius
The local Lee Valley doesn't charge shipping on SawStop. Do you have one nearby?
estesbubba
Like Mike said, most states have a place to enter online purchases but they don't have the funds to enforce it.
CessnaPilotBarry
They do in illinois too, but I believe it is a schedule you only need to attach if you made purchases. CT makes you enter either the total number, or a zero, on the state tax return. No blanks...
