wouldwurker
19.99 and AVOID.There's no specific brand name on it, but the SKU says 'Turners Tape'.It's not the usual paper backing; rather a very thin vinyl. As a result, you can't peel the backing off..it just stretches and pulls up the tape with it.It's the same very strong tape otherwise. If I spent 10 minutes template routing, I spent 30 minutes trying to peel the backing off the tape. bgreenb
I've found that in general the stuff at Rockler is very poor quality (obviously other than the stuff they sell made by specific brands). Thanks for the heads up.
Brendon_t
An alternative although more expensive is the "turners tape" from wood craft. Stuff is awesome albeit a bit more expensive. I use it all the time.
bgreenb
I use this stuff and love it:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1EHK0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1It's cheap, easy to peel the backing, and it's super strong. Highly recommend.
davewyo
I use an exacto knife to get a start on that vinyl backing. It is still a nuisance to use but it's far superior to my finger nails.
wtnhighlander
You guys peel from the edge, or cut across the backing and peel from the middle? I find peeling from the middle MUCH easier!
Dan S
I've never had an issue with it when using an Exacto knife.
wouldwurker
All I know is that the paper backed tape doesn't require an exacto knife. This vinyl stuff sucks
Popular Post Eric.
I love the turner's tape from Rockler. I don't know if they've changed it recently so we could be talking about two different types. The stuff I get is a little thicker than the regular double-sided carpet tape, a little squishy and SUPER sticky. It is a total nightmare to get the backing off, which is why you do this:Always leave a tag of the backing on the roll longer than the tape. Peel off a section of the tape at the length you desire, and cut ONLY the tape...leaving the backing on the roll. When you're done using the tape, cut the backing down to about an inch longer than the tape. You never have to fight with it that way.

A bit, but it works so well once you're using it, which counts more for me. I'm going to try scoring the tape next time.Anything and everything is better than the carpet tape I started out using. I burned the project I used it on, and the only thing that survived the fire was the tape and what it was attached to.
Janello
I have many battles in life, tape backing is not one of them. Give me any roll of tape and I will get the backing off. I own a grinder.
Tom Cancelleri
I use this stuff, I've had good results http://www.amazon.com/Peachtree-Woodworking-Yards-Double-PW3599/dp/B0049RAEA6
wdwerker
Yea the Peachtree stuff works well and costs less too. Sometimes too well when I am using a template repeatedly.

Eric.
It's not difficult. You just use the tip of the scissors to remove it from your finger as you lay it on the piece. It's easier than the alternative anyway. Or go on fighting that backing, see if I care.
DanWilt
I use the Rockler stuff all the time. It holds great. I usually cut it into 1 inch strips and attach it to either the template or the project. I don't find it difficult to remove the backing with either my fingernail or knife edge. gee-dub
Just adding additional info. Rockler has the same item number for variously sourced tape. I have gotten the very thin and stable stuff and gotten (and returned) the almost carpet-tape-like junk of which the OP speaks. No one wants to use gummy-bears to hold their templates for template routing or turning. If you are not able to walk into a store and see what you are getting this can be very frustrating and wasteful of time for both parties. If you do not get what you expect and return it, do a good turn and let the sourcing entity know WHY you are returning it so that they can hopefully make better choices when sourcing their items ;-)
