I have a dust hood that can be mounted on pretty much anything. I use is mostly when sanding on the lathe. I plan on having that and a floor sweep for the lathe with 2 blast gates, one at each collection point. I'm doing the same thing at my lathe - floor pick-up and a 4" for a dust hood. I thought this penn state one looked good with the arm that connects to your ways: https://www.pennstateind.com/store/DLGULP.html I'd also been playing with building something out of that 8020 aluminum t-slot stuff but I think that may end up being pretty expensive. Tom Cancelleri
Lee Valley is having their free shipping thing going on right now and I was contemplating picking up the metal self cleaning blast gates. I'm debating if I should put the blast gates after the reducer and get 4" gates, or before the reducers and get 6" gates.
gee-dub
If you get some 6" gates for tools you think you may eventually go completely 6" on you can reduce now and be ready later. On my 4" machines I reduce and then use a 4" gate as the space required is a bit less (if this is a concern).
Tom Cancelleri
Old dust collector has been sold. Drill press in place, lathe in place, planer in place. I think the table saw and Roubo switch is next.
Brendon_t
Sweet man. I've got a decent sketch up ready for a move but have to talk a buddy or two into coming over to help move stuff around.

My dad gave me a hand getting the lathe in place and releveling it. What's your layout look like?
Eric.
Yeah the lathe, oh my gawd. Just about busta nut trying to move that thing. At least the table saw you can kind of wiggle back and forth holding the rails, but that lathe...jeez. Big bandsaws suck too.

Looks better for your dust collection
Brendon_t
Yes jointer by the door. Saw is currently in the center. Bench against the wall, DP and Router table are the only thing not moving.
estesbubba
Go with 6" gates and reduce after them if needed. My thoughts were 6" would have less chance of clogging and you won't have to switch if you go bigger at the machines.
Popular Post Tom Cancelleri
I was messing around with sketchup today while at my uncle's house and laying out his garage when all of a sudden sketchup made total sense on how to do things. Got home, measured all my dimensions of my garage and BOOM! Soffits, and all that stuff. Hell, I even made my 2x4 tool bench that my Kapex sits on. This is actually a good feeling to understand this damn program that's baffled me for months. Maybe now I can actually use it to design some furniture. I also learned that my shop is 24 x 17' 6" not 22' 6" x 17' 6" That extra 1.5' length is phenomenal!

Tom Cancelleri
Now it's just getting a bit out of hand. I should probably be working in the shop and not waiting for the guy with the oak to get back to me so I can go pick it up. So I figured why not lay some pipe!

Tom Cancelleri
Moving the Roubo is harsh... I could've setup my saw horses, taken the slabs off and moved the base and then reassembled. Instead I decided to lift and wiggle, lift and wiggle, curse, swear, bitch, moan. Other side... Lift, wiggle, lift, wiggle. Nice thing is now that it's in place, I turn around and the miter saw is right there there's a ton of room around the bench, and an area large enough that I could get an MFT and still be able to move around it. I had 1 that I bought from a guy for 25 bucks that was brand new and never used.

Tom Cancelleri
I picked up my ducting. 50 feet of straight pipe, elbows galore, got my tapered reducers, ordered my blast gates from LV. Next problem..... Getting the 45 degree lateral tees, gotta find a place local that has them.
Tom Cancelleri
More hanging of stuff while I wait for branches, and having to run the electrical drops and such. Finally hung my tracks up. So much better than storing them under my couch in the formal living room to keep it from getting damaged.
