wtnhighlander
Taking a drive to Cape Girardau, MO tomorrow. Anyone know of a lumber source I might check out along the way? I'll be taking I-55 up from Dyersburg, TN. Hope to have a little free time on the way back.
treeslayer
I don't know of any wood for sale down that way Ross, but stop at the restaurant where they throw the rolls at you, good food

treeslayer
yep, that's the place, couldn't think of the name, was good when I was thru there but that's been a long time ago
Brendon_t
It's still great. I've been going there since I was a wee pup
wtnhighlander
Yeah, we might do Lambert's, might not. I hear its good, but I feel like anyplace where they throw food at you is a little dodgy. [*rimshot*]
Brendon_t
If it's not out of the way, I would hit it up. The okra is awesome.
wtnhighlander
I'm sorry, I don't understand 'okra' and 'awesome' in the same sentance. Southerner, through and through, that is one vegetable I never learned to tolerate.

Brendon_t
Fried okra has to be cooked perfectly. Too long and is rock hard. Too little and it's gooey inside.
wdwerker
Okra is great fried, ok in gumbo and pretty nasty otherwise.

TerryMcK
It's called Ladies Fingers over here. I don't like it - too sticky.
shaneymack
My wifes parents are from the Caribbean. My mother in law can cook up some okra that will make your toes curl. I love it.
Eric.
Only a 3 hour side trip to swing by and say what's up but you just totally act like you weren't even in the neighborhood. Thanks a lot, Ross, ya jerk! Seriously, next time you're in Missouri, come on up to U-Pick and I'll get ya squared away.

I doubt i'd do it now but as a kid, my sister and I used to sit on the front porch with 5 gallon pales of green beans and okra. Snapping the tops off the beans and eating the okra tips. Good times. gee-dub
I see we have two types of people here . . . those who eat okra and the rest of us ;-)

I just couldn't figure out how to still get my niece moved into her new place after turning a 300 mile round trip into a 600 mile round trip ... Made the trip, and enjoyed my first visit to Cape G. Nice river town, very much like Paducah, KY. Didn't hit Lambert's at a meal time, but enjoyed a nice BBQ at Port Cape Girardau resturant, right by the river flood wall. Junior, a huge rail fan, was immensly please to see a double-header BNSF freight train pass by, right across the street, as we ate.

wtnhighlander
Okra, boiled, is rougly equal to a plate of garden slugs. IMO.
Tom King
The best Okra is grilled. It gets rid of all the sliminess. Dip in Olive oil, and any seasoning you prefer, Grill until crispy on one side, turn and do the other. You will be surprised.
wtnhighlander
Tom, that almost sounds palatable. Almost. There's still that okra stuff in the recipe.
woodbutcher74
I worked in the South (around Atlanta) back in the eighties. From what I learned the proper pronunciation of the word is "okree". We were constantly corrected.
