Popular Post curlyoak
This comes with one of the pills I take. It absorbs moisture. Living in humid South Florida along with salted air, rust is problem. I keep my router bits in the drawer on a board with holes to fit the bit shafts. The shafts rust. Not anymore. Whenever One of these moisture absorbers pops up I add it to the router bit drawer and the problem is solved. If you have any tips or tricks to share please add it to this thread. Thanks
Ron Swanson Jr.
I try to keep a thin layer of thin oil on my rustables. Usually i use gun oil or something of a similar viscosity. I just wipe them with an oily rag.
pkinneb
I use a commercially available product in my hand tool drawer's but this is an awesome reuse!! Great Tip!
wtnhighlander
Use of dessicants always brings up this question: how long do those last, before needing to be replaced or "de-saturaded"? Pretty good way to re-use them, for sure.
Chestnut
I keep the little plastic protectors that wood chisels ship with. When I'm done with the chisel the protector goes back on the end. It's saved me from having to regrind a chisel edge more than once. Also keeps things on the work bench safer.
Ronn W
I have no problem with my router bits. Could it be that the sawdust that inevariably collects in the drawer acts as a dessicant??
BonPacific
If your region has humidity swings like mine and the desiccant is just there to smooth those out, I think they effectively last forever. But if you're in a place that's humid year-round I expect you'd want to bake them out eventually.
Tpt life
I use a variety of waxes and oils, but none of them last as long as the Renaissance wax on a plane Mel shipped to me.

They don't take up much space. So when I get another I just throw it in. 1

Different parts of the country has different problems. Here it is always humid and there is salt water in any direction. Counting the brackish water...I live in a rusty environment. Arizona I bet does not have a problem with rust.

With dust alone I still had rust. With the desiccant there is no problem.

Popular Post Tom King
Since the discussion has been on desiccant cannisters, I've been using these in my waterproof toolboxes since 2012 and I've never had to dry one out. The lids on them are never left open any longer than it takes me to fumble around in one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/325792903194?hash=item4bdac5301a:g:Jk4AAOSwrLhk7a3K&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8AcyiWpWHYkMy83EFKYWQ74QOMgpB4yKgOpmalA7E%2B1NjBjUhs%2FGgrVZnuBQarQREVvKB0xq1yhb4cUdsJavc4IGgPM7vsd8LAboKYC2%2FSWtzAVYdwSSfprABZV0Wnl0zv0YnMyz2bXwohEr7EQ6D7KhFB33V%2BjQevMy1mBVuqMO9rifgV2%2FuPT0ClTmrjxWW9IEh42sjKLj2Gs%2BI5PD0tRCKC8evwqZwGCEY8JKskCPaC62qZ%2BKY9jal1%2BsGR7WMyxNRtw2Bo7Swz8Kl96siC%2Fq4HcEvJYrLRtN7iGNxlVhNWihFxS1S1X13wQOKTncuw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR4ax7efgYg I need to make some more cubbies. I never have rust to deal with even living on the lee side of a large body of water.

Thanks Been using those for years. It started with dried dog treats, and I add my medication ones. The bottom of my hand tool cabinet probably has twenty or more. I just keep adding them wherever needed.
