Ron Swanson Jr.
That moxen block is really cool! So is the dust collection mod. But that block really gives me some things to think about. Very cool indeed!

It seems like every couple of years MatchFit pays a handful of YT influencers to do some projects and I really like what Jay did back in 2021 (which this block was part of).
Popular Post Von
A while ago I bought a Festool Angle Stop for my track saw and I noticed it was just a hair off of 90 - not much, just 1-2 10ths, enough I could notice it cutting a full 4' piece of plywood. This in turn made me realize the stop and track was a bigger tool than I had before and I didn't really have a square that was both big enough to calibrate it and that I was confident in being true 90 - my big box store framing square and little 3" engineer's square weren't cutting it at this size and precision. So I ended up buying a 12" Pinnacle square from Woodcraft and it was just big enough I could calibrate the angle stop. But I can understand the desire to own a big 24" precision square now. And I also notice again that buying better tools tends to lead to buying better measuring and marking tools.

I use my 24" Woodpecker instead of an angle stop with my tracksaw. I've heard that the Festool ones aren't as good as the TSO anyway. I still don't use it enough to get either a angle stop or the parallel guide system. 1

I have several small squares and came to realize that not one of them was a true 90. So i bought Woodpeckers 8" square. It was hard to part with that much cash for s simple square, but now i have a true 90 reference. The only problem is that it's too big for some things (band saw mostly) and too small for others. So i want to get one of their smaller squares and their T square. But it'll be a while before the household CFO blesses these acquisitions.

In retrospect, that is probably what I should have gotten as I bet I can count the number of times on my fingers I've broken down plywood using anything but a 90. But I got sucked in by feature creep...

Popular Post Von
Got a couple things done this morning. Since my saw is more stationary now, I made this extension table that fits onto the factory DeWalt pull-out rail extension and gives me a bigger, solid surface. The Matchfit slot you see in the center is an experiment so I can put a stop behind sleds to keep me from pushing past the blades. And yes, for those of you who also read he latest Fine Workworking Shop and Tool edition, the tip about a block in one of the miter slots would seem to work just as well and be simpler, but I already had the slot cut :-) I found this old WWII-era Disston saw at the local Habitat Restore for $5 and since I had been looking for a bigger back saw, I figured I'd give it a try. No issues taking it apart and cleaning it up (helpful YT video). Seems to work well, though I think I see learning how to sharpen it in my future. Amazed at how heavy it feels. Not sure that's a good thing or not yet, but very noticeable compared to my little dovetail saw.
