Coop Posted March 23, 2025 Report Posted March 23, 2025 Looking darn fine! Sorry for the distraction but sometimes, looking at others shops, I see stuff that I wasn’t directed to see but catches my attention. Where did you get the drawer pulls for your sharpening station? 1 1 Quote

Where did you get the drawer pulls for your sharpening station? It's been a while so don't recall but I'll pull the article when I'm in the shop tomorrow and let you know. Pretty sure this was a Woodsmith article/plan 1 Quote

Where did you get the drawer pulls for your sharpening station? So I looked everywhere and could not find that article but here are the plans https://www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/roll-around-work-cart/ And the pull material is 3/4" extruded aluminum drawer pull. Here is one example of many available online https://orangealuminum.com/pad63750/ On 3/23/2025 at 8:03 AM, Mark J said: I like the step stool. Where did you get that from? Here is this one I purchased https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGS2YG9?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 FWIW while searching for the above article I saw this wood venison in Vol. 31 / No. 183 of Woodsmith https://www.woodsmith.com/magazine/issue/183/ 2 1 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted March 24, 2025 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 24, 2025 So last night I woke up thinking about the magnets I will be using to hold the doors closed and how seeing them was really going to bug me. While pondering the thought came to me why not bury them? I could use the Pantorouter to make quick work of it...hmm then I fell back to sleep. Well this morning I set out to see if it would work, mainly would the magnets have enough holding power through the wood, so I set out to see. first I thought I would use a longer flat magnet on the cabinet that I could inset on the top and bottom. Well it worked great no issues with holding power at all Then in the door I would use a round one again cut at the PR While this proved in I was not sure my bar magnets would be long enough so I decided to go with two rounds instead. Each door will have one top and bottom. Then using scrap and file I made a quick plug Flush cut it and with a quick sand was pleased with the result. FWIW I'm cheap so I actually pulled the magnet out before flushing the test piece flat Now before I can glue up the case I need the door frames done so I can mark and cut the slots for the magnets so back to dove tails it was When I cut these after getting the blade started I cut all the way down on the front this helps me keep the saw kerf straight While chopping out the waste I realized my only sharpened mortise chisel was too wide for the middle DT so I needed to sharpen up a narrower one. Here is a Narex right out of the box... So I needed to flatten/ polish the back first This should be good... Then sharpened the blade Then finished cleaning out the waste of the middle pin. Not going to lie its always satisfying to have one go together with no paring Now I just need to repeat that 7 more times 7 Quote

gee-dub Posted March 26, 2025 Report Posted March 26, 2025 We all have these days on different projects. Some times an hour shows massive progress and some times 4 hours doesn't show at all. Ever onward! 2 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted March 30, 2025 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 30, 2025 Back at it. First up swap in a new Woodslicer resaw blade to resaw some ash. This is for the door panels this stuff was a bit squirrely so I went almost an 1/8" thick and will take them down to final thickness 1/16" on the drum sander. This should work. I will need to resaw some plain maple for the back side. I'm using 3/8" BB for the core. Going down to 1/16" requires a sled so I knocked one out quick since I didn't have one long enough laying around While I waited for that to dry I knocked out the second door frame That's it for today. 4 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted March 30, 2025 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 30, 2025 Finished cutting what I hope is all the veneer I will need for the project and then cleaned it up on the drum sander. FWIW these are the longest thin sheets I have sent through the drum sander and you need to hold them down on the platen as it feeds into the DS or they may buckle not so laissez-faire like in this photo...ask me how I know 5 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted April 5, 2025 Author Popular Post Report Posted April 5, 2025 Busy week at the office so no workshop time until today. Started out by marking the area the fixed shelves will go in each door. With the joinery all done I don't need any mistakes... Then milled some shelf stock up Marked the location for the main shelf mortice in each door side Then set up the PR to cut the mortise. I have two template holders so I can have one set up for up and down cuts and one for the side ways cuts. Well worth the cost especially if you wait for a sale which they have regularly With the set up done I cut the mortises Then it was time to set up for the tenons. The beauty of the PR is once set up you can really knock things out fast, especially with the air clamps option. Here I use the shelf stock to insure the tenon is centered on the shelf This swing stop lets you swap parts with out further setup I cut a tenon and immediately realize I mucked up! Forgot to change to the larger bearing, good thing this is a test piece so no harm done That's better With that done I just need to drill holes for the shelf pins so I can have adjustable shelves. With a fence set up at the DP this was a quick task Time to clean up the door parts It was at this point I realized that while I had run tests for the magnet cuts I had never actually made the cuts on the project...facepalm! So I put the doors back together and marked the locations. Then I reset the PR for this task I'll make the cuts in the AM but did make the plug stock using hand tools That's all for today. 7 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted April 20, 2025 Author Popular Post Report Posted April 20, 2025 Got a couple hours in today. My shelf pins came in. These won't be seen as I will add a relief in the bottom of the shelf Next I routed the slots for the door close magnets Once lined up I remove the tape and cut. I used tape to insure the were in the right spots a miss now would be bad Then worked out the door pull reliefs using the PR and a core box router bit These should work well 5 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted November 29, 2025 Author Popular Post Report Posted November 29, 2025 With the deck done time to get back to this project. First step clean up the shop its a bit of a disaster... Before After Next up determine what's left to do prior to glue up. 5 Quote

Coop Posted November 30, 2025 Report Posted November 30, 2025 Paul, if I tote everything out of my shop, onto the driveway, will you organize it for me? I would say re-organize but that would be an oxymoron! 1 1 Quote
Popular Post gee-dub Posted November 30, 2025 Popular Post Report Posted November 30, 2025 My gosh, this thing is looking so good! This is going to be a joy forever. I love the fact that you use the little MF style finger plane. One of my favorites for detail work as well. Michael's design (or version 2 actually) was a total inspiration for my wall cabinet. Mine is no where as elegant as his and yours but it was the kernel for my effort. Mine has been a joy for many years and will probably survive me. Yours will do the same . . . rock on. 3 Quote

Very clean edge, do you tape off the surfaces to be glued, or just apply the shellac carefully? 1 Quote

I just apply it carefully 4 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted December 28, 2025 Author Popular Post Report Posted December 28, 2025 First up today steam out a couple dents in the cabinet With that done I prepped and added shellac to the door parts Then on to glue up Next I need to start on the door faces so I started staring at the shop veneers I cut earlier this year to get a layout I like. This isn't to bad The panel backs (inside face) will be out of the plain ash veneers Hope to get these in the vacuum bag tomorrow but may work on the face frames first so I know exactly how big the panels need to be and also if I want to bag them as 2 or 4 pieces. They have some warp which may be easier t deal with if I do 2 panels per door. 4 Quote
