They are friction fit but to insure no movement during glue up I just used a dab of thick super glue on each end. Then I spread out some glue, taped them together. and set them in the vacuum bag to dry. Once dried I needed to relieve the edge by the pull so that it did not sit above it. A couple swipes with a rasp and it was good to go. Then I clamped them to the inner door and screwd them in from the back With those done I started working on the bevel so the door would close, quick work at the bench with a hand plane. Still need to dial in the gaps a bit more but getting there. This thing is a work of art, Paul! 1 Quote
Von Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Very nice! Where did you find the magnets for the chisel holders? 1 Quote

Amazon, here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DFZH4WT?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4&th=1 FWIW I found about 1/16th to 3/32nds of an inch wood over the magnets provides enough holding power but still easy to remove the chisel's. I started with closer to an 1/8" but decided it felt a little sketch. Probably would have been fine but the last thing I wanted was one to fall out and chip the end or something. 2 1 Quote
Von Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Thanks. I like your approach. I made my chisel holder with round disc magnets installed from the front and covered with plugs, but your approach is more flexible since you don't have to worry about landing the chisel on magnet. 1 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted February 8 Author Popular Post Report Posted February 8 Today started with marking the desired inner door gaps Then using a plane I dialed them in Before reinstalling the door I finished the faces off as well This will work Next I needed to make the magnet blocks to hold the inner door closed. I started by routing a recess for the round magnets Then did the opposing ones in the door Then I glued them in Next up on the list was to deepen the main door hinge recesses I had about an 1/8" gap and wanted closer to 1/16" That's better 5 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted February 22 Author Popular Post Report Posted February 22 Got the other inner door DT's cut today. Dang I can make a mess! All better I need to get moving on this hoping to finish in the next month or so as I will need to move back out side to finish the deck, outdoor kitchen, and a couple other quick outdoor projects before we leave on our Route 66 trip in May. 5 Quote

We'll start in Chicago and end in Santa Monica before heading north in CA to see the redwoods then back home. I can't wait. Its the 100th anniversary this year so lot's of extra stuff going on along the route throughout the year. 4 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted March 1 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 1 Today I recut the dove tails on one side of the inner door becuase I forgot to leave room for the hinge strip, twice!! First I thought dang I forgot the hinge strip so I shortened them a 1/4" and recut the DT's before remembering there is a strip on the door as well so I took off another 1/4" and recut them again! Facepalm Then I cut the back panel as I did on the first door and glued it up. Another mistake today as I forgot to cut the door pull before glue up, not sure how I will fix that After hanging the right main door I glued the hinge strip to it Then cleaned up the squeeze out. After it dried a couple of swipes with a hand plane to flush it up and then a quick final sand Once the inner door is done I will start on the lower drawer bank So I milled up some stock for that. 6 Quote
Popular Post pkinneb Posted March 7 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 7 Back at it today. Kicked off by final milling the material for the drawer case framing under the shelf. Then cut the sides, top, and bottom to length Cleaned up the long grain edges with my #4 A couple passes to go from this to this Then did the same on the end grain with a shooting board and my #5 until they fit under the shelf Some nice end grain shavings right there Next up I laid out for the box joints I will be doing at the TS. This centering ruler doesn't get used much but when you need it its nice to have Knocked out a quick fence to do 3/8" box joints Then knocked out the ends Followed by the top and bottom It will need a little fine tuning once its glued up but close enough for now Last up today I determined and laid out for the drawer frames 7 Quote
fcschoenthal Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 With dovetails for the cabinet and box joints for the drawer case, what do you have planned for the drawer frame joinery? 1 Quote
Coop Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 Does the ruler have a hook on the end? I tried to zoom in to see the brand but couldn’t get close enough. 1 Quote

DT's. I thought the box joints would be quicker and since you will never see them decided to go that route. Ultimately I probably could have done DT's quicker. Its a Woodpeckers I really like their stainless rulers, I find their red ones hard to read with my crappy eyes 4 Quote

They are the only Woodpecker's gear that I have other then the 6" Paolini stainless steel ruler you recommended for old eyes. Over the years that I have had them the 6 and 12 inch have been used the most but I count them all as useful investments. 4 Quote
