Popular Post Llama
Here is a coffee table I made for a client. Same client as the maple table I made earlier in the year. These are some in process pics. Some touching up needs to be done, as with any project. The top is made of wenge, walnut, spalted elm (stained grey), padauk and curly white oak. (so much for the rule of three)... The case is finished using a milk paint from General Finishes. They were cool enough to send me several cans of finish as a sample, so I put it to good use. The top is finished using good ol' ARS. The client wanted a rounded edge on the sides of the top, and not perfectly straight. So, I got the sides straight, then hit it with the Rotex to get the round-over while ensuring it would not be perfect. My OCD was going nuts, but that's the joy of building for others. I really struggled with applying stain to such great looking wood. I am pleased with the end result, but next time I would search for another option. Here is a pic of the top before applying the ARS. I had to mask off the table in order to stain the spalted elm pieces. That was a lot more work than I had anticipated. Took three times to get the result I was looking for. The client wanted the stain to be dark, yet allow the spalting to show through. It is more evident in real life. Then end result is really cool. Near the end of the project, I was asked to make room for two glass shelves for remotes or magazines. These glass shelves are 10.5" deep. Plenty of room for the TV guide. I left the rear panel unpainted to allow light to reflect out. Otherwise, it may have been too dark. (yes, I see the wenge that needs touching up)Three drawers on Blum soft close undermount slides. The two closest are 21", and the far one is 30". The far drawer is to hold a blanket. I made sure I had some grain continuation in the drawer fronts. These drawer fronts were two pieces for the glue up, then cut to size for the fronts. I almost installed the big one upside down. Good thing I checked my marks Thanks for looking.

Janello
Looks really great Mel. Carrying the milk paint into the few boards in the top, mellowed it out just enough to not be gaudy yet still have bling. Another winner for that customer!

wtnhighlander
Very interesting piece, Mel! I like how the grain shows through the milk paint. Good call on grain matching the drawer fronts, it looks awesome.

Coop
Mel, that is pretty cool! What is the top dimension? The Blum slides, being soft close, are not push to open are they? Did the drawers get pulls?
