Boatworks Today
Holy hell.. It's looking like I will be the next victim to get pulled into this vortex ... You guys have a template you're working off, or making your own?
Llama
Mine are based off a template that I have modified. Not sure if the other guys made any changes.
Eric.
I used this one...stole it off gargle. I made it maybe 25-50% bigger, chopped his tail off and modified his back and rear end curves a little.
Boatworks Today
Thanks Guys. I blame you Mel
Tom Cancelleri
I used a similar pattern and added a tail. Then I sanded the tail off my template for speed and desire to not hand sand. I added some mass and a sweeping arch for a tail.
wtnhighlander
I found the same pattern via google and free-hand sketched it to fit my trial piece. I have not yet made a template to copy from, but can see the necessity.

AstroDave
Tom I see you have the Carter Stabilizer on there... Is that really required to make these little guys? I have the Laguna 14-12 and don't see that Carter makes one for that model...

I don't do any relief cuts for the most part just keep turning and cutting. I'm fairly certain that this will fit the 1412 http://www.carterproducts.com/band-saw-products/band-saw-stabilizer/laguna-hd-ceramic-lhd1If you call Carter they will be able to verify this. The stabilizer works even better if you use a blade with less than 10 tpi

Popular Post Boatworks Today
Think I got the proportions to my liking. Made a couple samples to make sure before batching out santas herd for stocking stuffers . One is cherry and the other red oak with a GF glaze. Wanted to give a shout out to Mel (the OP) for getting this started! Doing this was a nice break from my normal day Not sure what's going on here

Eric.
I like those fatties more than any of the others including mine. They have a certain charm. Just like me! Nice job, Andy. It kills me how much people like these things. My wife and mother-in-law never shut up about them...while completely ignoring the awesome bed I've been working on for the last 10 weeks. Whatever.
Popular Post Boatworks Today
Maybe we can get Boatworks to build an ark for them all Shipwrecked! The boats seen better days (probably 20 years ago this was the first thing I built out of balsa strips with a dremmel tool). The mast has been snapped off and the hemp cordage has gotten pulled out between the planks courtesy of some mice, but BoBo thought it a good idea to take her for a spin :-). A few Bombay's and the guys a lush...
