Popular Post G S Haydon
I wanted a nice easy project to give the mind a rest after a busy day. I also wanted to do some vid's on the build so I did not want to venture far from my comfort zone. To come up with some inspiration I did a Pinterest Board and finally hit on this one There are two other I liked that I will make too. One benfit of doing the Pinterest board was that following the link from this chest took me to the dealers site which gave further info I'm going 90% hand tool (no way am I using an egg beater) for reasons no deeper than "I fancy doing that" I wrote up a cutting list which I would of preffered not to do but as I'm tryin to run this on the Blog as a project I felt I had to. I prefer to do this type on the basis of make it up as you go. I went for European Redwood which is somewhere between EWP & SYP. It's a dream to use and oh so forgiving. I'm nearly knot free as well which is nice. I don't have any boards wide enough as the widest plank is 225. So I cut the stuff out to rough sized and did some basic surface prep and then edge jointed. Here is my first attempt at a project vid. It's still poor. My biggest problem is combining chat and work. They are always seperate which makes things drag on longer than they should. Also the lighting stinks! Hopefuly I can improve that on the next instalment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cVn3Khmhug

Eric.
Here is my first attempt at a project vid. It's still poor. My biggest problem is combining chat and work. They are always seperate which makes things drag on longer than they should. Nah, it feels easy-going and easy to watch...and if you're filming with beginners in mind, going too fast can get confusing for them. Good stuff, Graham...following. FYI, you forgot to link to the milling video you referenced around the six minute mark.

pghmyn
I like to watch the video on my iPhone, so when you are pointing around to "then watch this video over here," I just see you pointing to nothing - since the pop up video links do not show on my phone. Looks rather funny.
G S Haydon
Thanks Sam, Eric, I have now sorted that link!
DaveT
Got to agree with Eric. You've got a nice relaxed style that is easy to watch. The separate chat and action means I can concentrate on each without worrying about missing something. Watching you in action brought back memories of 1972. My old woodwork teacher always said that you should use your whole body when working with wood. I think he would have been very happy watching you. Keep them comming

jhl.verona
Excellent!! Your style is awesome!! What's next? A seven board chest? How about the eleven grooved box? Graham, I thought you'd been arrested in the first shot! Just kidding. Nicely done, you've got a natural style. You could always do the work and then add a voice over. Just needs a microphone and mixer (or pre amplifier). I've recently spent about £50 on the equipment myself, and used audacity and openshot to make mah fust videah, but in Italian (with a heavy English accent). Lot's of fun, but I'm much more wooden with the voice. Geddit??!!? John
G S Haydon
Dave, John, Mel thank you! I love the comment, 11 groove box and 7 board chest has me laughing :-) John, very nice vid. Your voice is pretty awesome, possibly the best woodworking voice I've heard. I will have to get my head around the mic stuff.

Eric.
I don't know what a seven board chest would look like...maybe something like a Chernobyl victim. But the eleven groove box is alive and well thanks to St. Roy... http://video.pbs.org/video/2263884494/

..Kev
Thanks Steve, Roy, now there's a guy who can do a vid! Someone needs to buy him a table saw and a router table! He could also use some ADHD meds In all seriousness, I do enjoy watching his stuff!

Eric.
Oh, it will look almost the same. Only one better! Like this? I've stared at this damn thing for about 15 minutes...and I'm still at a total loss. I guess it has to be photoshop trickery because I can't come up with any other logical explanation.

Tpt life
I caught it and ignored it. Those mockumentaries tend to be favorites in my fam.
Trip
Nice video... I’ve watched the 6-board chest by Chris Schwarz, and your video dovetails quite nicely… Please forgive the word selection... It's early here and I haven't had my morning caffeine infusion... The 6-board chest is a really good ‘first project’ for the newbie, but Chris doesn’t provide the ‘intro’ material to get up and running. You’re ‘Part 1’ video fills that gap nicely with stock selection, rough layout, stock break-down, etc. For the newbie, a talk about wood movement and why the chest is assembled the way it is would be a big help – I suspect most beginners will get that wrong and they’ll have a great chest... for about six months... Anyway, well done...
G S Haydon
Thanks hhh, I will include that. My plan is for glueless nailing (that seems logical in my tiny mind) and I will include a description about movement.

Here's a hint: it can only be viewed from one very specific angle, otherwise the illusion doesn't work.
