She says I think better with it anyways.........

Popular Post shaneymack
Haha. No Brendon, nothing but love for you guys. Im keeping my chair here! So its just been a crazy couple weeks. I got a couple hours yesterday and a couple today. I dont have anything super interesting to report. Ive been card scraping, card scraping and more card scraping. I got all the spindles final shaped and all the rasp marks out. I setup an led light on my bench and scraped them with raking light. This is the spindles all final shaped, card scraped ready for a light sanding One word of advice; If you arent comfortable sharpening/using card scrapers my advice is get good before attempting one of these chairs. I couldnt imagine sanding all those rasp marks out by hand, it would have been a nightmare. I will be gluing up the headrest/spindles VERY soon then it's on to the rockers!! I bought a sweet piece of qs wenge for the rockers TIODS (kev) and I were talking one day and the subject of plugs/rockers came up. I mentioned I did not want to cough up the hundreds of dollars to use ebony for the plugs and contrasting wood in the rocker lamination. Kev offered to send me some ebony plugs !! He actually cut the plugs and shipped them to me here in Qc all the way from western Usa. What a real sweetheart!! Thanks again Kev!! Here are the plugs ready to be glued in. Im now up to 62.5 hours with finalizing the spindles and starting to card scrape the legs/headrest. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk All those pics are from before the surgery.. Funny you posted this. I actually do feel like I've gained a little weight since the snip. Although, my breasts don't feel any bigger so that pic is for sure not me. Brendon_t
Glad you are keeping going. I figured something like life getting in the way. Let us know how the wenge does bending. I've tried doing it a few times and failed spectacularly.

woodsmoke
How are the back slats (spindles) to be installed? I have one idea, but rather than state it, I'll keep quiet and just ask. I know the answer will make me feel like a dope. The sculpturing looks fantastic.

The top of the back slats have a 3/8" tenon that fits into a 3/8" hole that was drilled into the headrest. The bottom of the slats have a 1/2" tenon that fits into a 1/2" hole that was drilled into the seat. It will all be glued in place with epoxy. If you look back through the journal I think there are some pics of the tenons/mortises....

shaneymack
Spent 3 hours this evening scraping and sanding. Im getting the chair as close to final as i can before the spindle/headrest glue up. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to glue up the spindles. I was almost there this evening but ran out of time. Total time 65.5 hours. The chair is looking great Shane! Keep it up, buddy....,,,,,,I did see your photo by the way on the WTO yearbook post... I'm really impressed. Now I feel like a dope. LOL
