shaneymack
In your case it might be finding a good METH-od to your madness. What 3 rasps are you using there Shane? The beast is a 6 grain, the middle guy is a 10 grain and the little one is a 13 grain modellers. I love every second with those things in my hands. shaneymack
What's the hour count to?I was at 34 hours after the last post and the spindle shaping took about 1.5 hours. So 35.5 hours. I worked for around 1.5 hours more on the spindle tenons last night but broke 2 of the spindle tenons trying to fit them . I will update once im done repairing and/or re makiing the spindles and when i have them all fit to the chair.
-MattK-
I was going to saw "oh balls" about the tenons breaking but then thought that might be insensitive given what you're going through this week ;-)

sjk
You're making great progress Shane! Your clamping strategy is awesome - I can easily see how being able to take those long smooth strokes lead to your success.

shaneymack
After having "the" surgery on Thursday ive been sitting around watching movies resting the boys. Well that got old quick so I got in the shop today. I spent 3.5 hours refining the shape and sanding the seat. I started by drawing some reference lines to shape to. Shaped up to the lines Gooseneck came in real handy getting into the profiles in the seat. Mixed some epoxy and glued up the legs to the seat. Now time to start shaping the headrest. I made a template for the profile. Some reference lines Bottom rough shaped Onto the top Starting to take shape but there is still a ton of work to blend the headrest into the legs. At this point with the spindle tenons shaped im up to 42.5 hours. I will post pics of the spindles installed once i get the 7th one remade. After breaking the tenon, it was not repairable. Coop
Shane, just now watching the video of shaping the back of the spindles. That would have scared the hell out of me with a tool that aggressive. Great job. But the video will be costing me some $$$$ as I've gotta have one of those clamping systems!

They are just festool quick clamps http://www.amazon.ca/Festool-491594-Quick-System-8-Inch/dp/B001U309KW You need to have an mft or some sort of bench that works with them. When i built my bench i installed T tracks on the top and front that accept these specific clamps. They also fit in the holes you see all over the benchtop
Brendon_t
So you can get the guide track separately, good.
shaneymack
So you can get the guide track separately, good. Yes. I epoxied those tracks into 2" cherry. Works like a charm. You need a specific size t track that fits these clamps. Cant remember the model but if you look at my bench build project journal im sure i gave the exact model in there.
