mrrhode04
Well it isn't any fancy piece of furniture but it look kinda cool. My Mom asked me to make a cutting board for her to give to one of her friends. I know this friend so I knew she would want something different. Her and her husband own their own business writing and publishing children books for a living. Here is the cutting board that I made for her.

deav
Cool! What's the bluish wood?
mrrhode04
That is walnut, it is kinda grey and I am not sure why. The board is made out of maple, walnut, cherry and purple heart.
shaneymack
Wow, that looks like a crazy amount of work ! Nice job Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
mrrhode04
Thanks, it takes more work to make one of these but it was only 2 extra glue ups per panel compared to a normal end grain board.
rodger.
Looks like a minecraft cutting board!
Chestnut
That is really cool. I'm interested in how you made it. Did you happen to take pictures along the way? I'd follow a project journal of something like this.
mrrhode04
Looking back it looks like I have enough pictures to explain how I did it. I will get a journal put together so you can see (for the most part) step by step.

Brendon_t
Do you remember the starting size of your first board and the finished size? I've often thought about doing one but just not sure about how much size you lose to the multi rounds of cutting it down.
mrrhode04
Well I started with four panels that were about 13"x24" and ended up with two panels that were 13"x24" but that is because I was cutting the strips thicker than the panel thickness was. That is the main reason I used my band saw, that way I wouldn't lose that much wood to the table saw blade.
Brendon_t
So it took 4 panels to do 1 board?
mrrhode04
Yes but I had a few pieces extra that I will put in to a different board.
