Popular Post ..Kev
Well, I got notice that the new drum sander will be here next Thursday. I had a pile of ply in the shop and knew that I wanted a custom stand for it with lots of storage. Because it sit's really close to my table saw, it's the perfect solution to store the table saw accessories as well as the obvious stuff for the drum sander.. Sorry I didn't take many pictures along the way but, it's a pretty simple box.. The large opening on the long side will get 2 or 3 drawers, need to figure out what lives there before finalizing that thought. The short side will get 4 drawers. The ply on the top is all the drawer parts cut and grooved for the drawers on the short side.. Still need to cut bottoms and get them mounted.. Should be able to have this done by Thursday So much for no dust collection! Looks like I'll have to get the old leaf blower out!
Chet
Looks like a great start for one days work. Almost looks like you be done tomorrow. It looks like refinished ply from here.
wdwerker
I need to build one of those for my drum sander. I can reduce the footprint and gain storage too.

My youngest son is graduating from high school and college (AA Degree) on Saturday. Steaks on the grill at my place! Yea, the Treager!

Woodenskye
Looking good. A little disappointed there aren't cabriole legs on it, since you mastered that this morning. Congrats on your sons graduation!

JosephThomas
Looks good and congrats to you and your son! I see one problem though, where is the 2nd stand that I requested for my shop?
shaneymack
That's fantastic ! I've been thinking of doing the same thing. The supermax stand is a hunk of trash and I could use some more storage ! Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk

toddclippinger
Congrats on your purchase of the sander! It will definitely be a great asset in the shop! I came real close to ordering a brush sander from SuperMax last year. I was doing a ton of reclaimed material and there was one job toward the end of the year that fell through. Had I got that job, I would have pulled the trigger on the brush sander. The guy I was dealing with was pretty helpful and followed through on some information that he had to get together for me. It seemed like a great company to deal with. Congrats on your son's graduation and good luck as he continues with his education!
Llama
Yeah Kev.. This project needs cabriole legs... The stock stand is great to store an extra 12 pack!

No wheels for this one. Plenty of infeed and outfeed room so, no need for wheels. 3 hours ago, shaneymack said: That's fantastic ! I've been thinking of doing the same thing. Coop
Kev, What is that I see where the three sides meet the bottom? It looks like some kind of metal?

I figure I'd drill a couple of holes in the board it's mounted to, and then use some hooks to hang it.

Popular Post ..Kev
I got up early this morning to knock out some of the drawers before being put to work by the boss for the graduation stuff.. Got the 4 drawers on the end in place and working great! I also knew that I wanted that bottom drawer on the side to be the home for my rarely used tenon jig. I beefed this drawer up quite a bit as it's a heavy piece. That space that can be seen in the back serves 2 purposes. 1) it allowed me to just set the 3/4" ply to the inside of the frame so, no need to shim for the glide. 2) It will be the new home for band saw blade storage. I still have a couple more drawers to put in here. I know that one will be for paper storage but, from there, I'm not sure. Guessing other accessories that come with the machine. Also, I still need to trim it out, add drawer fronts, etc...

I could never decide whether I was being lazy, clever or just doing something that everyone else had already figured out.

Each piece is different so, really depends on the piece. If it's shop furniture, you just need to decide if you gain some experience by shimming the glide to fit perfectly. I got dual purpose out of it on this piece so, was a no brainer.
