Coop
Live edge has it’s place and this is a good example. I built a live edge coffee table and really enjoyed the build and if I may so so myself, it was one of my most challenging builds and looks good in the surroundings.

Coop
It’s a pecan slab. The aprons are mortise and tenon to the legs and the base attached to the top with homemade buttons.

This one was in pretty bad shape when I bought it, still had the bark on it.

pkinneb
Very nice! The base and the BB ends really set it off from a lot of other live edge tables i've seen. BTW nice shop!!

Pondhockey
Coop, Higtron, how did you work the live edges?
wtnhighlander
Some people scoff at 'live edge' pieces, thinking they are the lazy way to build. They don't realize how much effort goes into making that live edge clean, while keeping the "untouched" appearance. Well done!
Hugh Howard
Really nice work!
Coop
I used an old chisel and a screw driver to remove as much bark as possible. There were a couple of spots that stuck out to far from the rest that I had to saw off and I reshaped them with a rasp. To get the darker, leftover part of the bark off, I bought a hand held polisher that looks like an angle grinder (car polisher) and also a Polishing/Sanding kit with the pad and different grits of paper, all from Harbor Freight and it worked great. Final sanding was done with the ROS. 1
wtnhighlander
Coop, any pics of that while in the process?
Dave H
@Pondhockey I used a flap sanding wheel in an electric drill , a putty knife to get the bark off, and then elbow grease and sand paper up to 220g my right thumb got a great workout!

wdwerker
Wire brushes and flap sanding wheels work great on live edges.
