..Kev
Those are some sexy spindles sir. 13 hours and still more work left to do on them . Wow!It's not a quick process by any means! Thanks Mike!
Woodenskye
Kev it appears to me that the spindles are still connected to each other am I seeing that right in the last picture? So according to the plan are you only shaping the front and back or do you need to separate and finish shaping? I really am am digging this journal.
..Kev
No, they were just set together, not connected.. Sorry, I should have pulled them apart a bit. Each one was shaped individually.Lower spindle tenons cut and fit. Still some hand work to do down there but, that was about all for me today! ..Kev
Upper spindle tenons cut and test fit. Shaping the rest of the spindles next.

davewyo
It's looking REALLY good. When did you do the "headboard" or whatever it's called?
..Kev
A couple pages ago.. The crest rail (head rest) is from 10/4 stock and then shaped with the template and drilled for the slats. The upper and lower shape is personal preference, there is no template

davewyo
Will spend tomorrow just shaping the spindles so, won't be much of an update.Ah yes, but to me that's the fun part...the finessing of the shapes. Oh...and thanks for the terminology on the crest rail.I like to get terms right rather than saying the "what-cha-ma-call-it". I had a roommate in college whose father (for some unknown reason) called every unknown thing a "feduka". I still use the nonsense term to this day.

shaneymack
So you did a test fit but did you do a test sit? How does she caress your cheeks??
..Kev
So you did a test fit but did you do a test sit? How does she caress your cheeks??Yes, I did a test sit. It's really incredible! I know it's easy to be biased because of the amount of work I have in it but, it was super comfortable!
Mick S
Yes, I did a test sit. It's really incredible! I know it's easy to be biased because of the amount of work I have in it but, it was super comfortable!I made a shop stool mainly for the purpose of testing the "sit" of the seat in preparation for a Maloof rocker build. Oh my, it sits so very well!

Mick S
So I've heard!I've been really intrigued by Hal Taylor's back braces. I would love to see the difference in the sit. Edited August 22, 2015 by micks

Mick S
I don't have any "sitting" experience either way, other than the seat. People who sit on my stool invariably make the comment, "Ooh!" Which I take as a compliment.
..Kev
The coopering combined with the power carving really created a cool sitting area! When combined with the shape of the spindles in the back rest, it's super comfortable!
Popular Post ..Kev
Initial shaping of the spindles complete. Not sure if I want them thinner or not. Will let it sit like this for a bit and think on it.
