This one I checked out last week. But he won't budge on the price. A thrifty sort of person he is. (Made by Steel City.)

Like the 22124 I owned for some time, this saw at least uses cabinet mounted trunnions.  These 'zipcode' saws (22124, 22114) were made for Sears by Orion that morphed into Steel City and made some fine tools for awhile.  I have often said that if I had not gotten an unexpected opportunity I would still be using the 22124.

The 22114's weak spot is the fence.  This was glaringly obvious in the mid 2000's when the saws came out as its big brother, the 22124 came with a Bies.  The 22114 had all the issues one gets with a two part front rail done on the cheap.  Many folks applied a little TLC, resolved the fence rail issues and got a hard working saw with cabinet mounted trunnions, cast iron top and wings and a better than average miter gauge for a pretty decent price point.

Based on your previous experience with table mounted trunnions and the price range you're shopping in . . . Since the whole saw (in your link) costs about what a good fence does, I would give it a look.  JMHO.

Agreed. The mobility on the Ridgid is great.

$400 is too much for that used saw though. A new one is around $550 or so... The Ridgid on CL is a very old model, and is the one most people refer to when stating the Ridgid saws are troublesome.

Agreed. A new Ridgid is only a little temping. The Ridgid R4512 alignment reduced the bolt count from 3 to 2 and at least provides a rear access panel.

And since this one has no fence that's not a problem. At least not the same problem.

What it's boiling down to is whether I can get long without a riving knife or without a higher-end fence.  What I am trying to avoid is purchasing a newer version of what I sold. Not much sense in that.

I'm getting closer in my mind to shelling out for this one, start with an average fence, and have resolved that real issue of proper blade alignment. I can always add a knife later and begin with a simple and inexpensive splitter.

Why have we not voted unanimously on the grizzly with unifence yet!?!? Buy a $30 sharkguard for it, and you will only miss a riving knife when you do a nonthrough cut. 3hp clone of a unisaw with what I would consider the best OEM fence ever made, and it has a mobile base to make loading and unloading a breeze. Oh, did I forget to mention its freaking $400!?!?

i cant see the link for the 3650.

i can tell you from experince, that the 3650 is an awesome table saw. i have had one for over 10 years, and it still works great. i have been looking to upgrade for a while, but the ridgid does more than everything i throw at it, so i can't justify replacing it.

if you are looking at the ridgid, they did have an issue for a while with arbors that were too short. make sure you check the arbor. it is well documented at ridgidforum.com.

Probably because of the (apparently) 220V feature.  The price certainly is right.

What Pwk5017 said. That looks like the 1023 saw, which won Best Value back in the day. It has a good reputation. Unfenced is also a good fence - repeatable and accurate. Add a Shark splitter and you have a very nice setup.

220 volt wiring is as easy as 110 volt wiring, just with a double breaker. Don't let that stop you.

The grizzly listing on craigslist is no longer there, so it is probably sold. You can't wait too long to jump on a great deal.

The last tool I sold on craigslist was a 6" delta jointer for $350 and it was gone in two hours

And it was a good 2 hours drive away. Oh well.

It was worth a 2 hour drive and a case of the guys favorite beer to help you load it. I'd lurk craig's list until you find another something like that. The rigid's aren't bad saws but i personally feel that $350 is too much I'd go at most half of what new retail is. Those saws are all over the place.

I can empathize with your challenges.  Tablesaws come in tiers of a sort.  The things you are trying to get away from exist at the tier you are shopping in, there's no real escaping that.  This just means you will have to do a lot of shopping and probably just miss a few deals but, endeavor to press on.

Riving knives have only recently returned to western saws so finding a "good" used saw with one will be a rare find (but, not impossible with diligence and patience).  Finding a $300 fence on a saw that costs $300 is unrealistic as I'm sure you are discovering.

You're getting a good feel for what is generally available in the used market at your price-point.  I would just keep looking around but, be prepared to move quickly if you find that perfect fit.  As someone else mentioned, great deals don't set around long.  They're a matter of luck to some degree and luck favors the prepared ;-)

I havent used the ridgids, but I have used the craftsman made by steel city that you linked. My uncle owns it. The OEM fence is pretty crappy. Other than that, the saw isnt too bad. Personally, I would spend my tree fiddy on something like this https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tls/5588017321.html

It's all in the fence, baby.

Im searching your area now and you didnt like this one? Cremona has this saw, i think

https://columbus.craigslist.org/tls/5600199160.html

Bies clone to outfit your saw you buy with a crap fence

https://columbus.craigslist.org/tls/5600048787.html

Above fence with this unisaw might do the ticket. 110v and quality

https://columbus.craigslist.org/tld/5562380323.html

Thats 5 mins doing some homework in your area. Its your money, but I would buy that fence ASAP. I sold the head off my delta bies for $125-150 without the rails. Even if you dont use it, you should be able to sell it; however, the alternative is you have a good fence(i assume this is like the jet/shopfox/grizzly fences?) to go on whatever saw you buy. It's your money and time though.Right this very second you have a few good verging on great scenarios.

That fence was just posted. <2 hours ago. Good find.

The R4511 is also a recent post.  That model was subject to a recall

Got the R4511 last evening.  Had I not known of it (thanks
Seller has developed back problems so I had to disassemble it myself.  Hauling that marble from his basement to the trunk of my car was not fun. The center section was definitely over 100 lbs.  I wonder if it was assembling the saw that gave him back problems.  The whole thing together weighs 452 lbs, so you understand the issue.

Had #2 son come with his truck to pick up the base to take home.  Time tomorrow for reassembly. Maybe. Otherwise after the holiday.

The stock fence is pretty mediocre.  Nothing a couple of nylon pads wouldn't fix. :-)

Since the tilt wheel is on the left side, does that mean it's a right tilt blade?

If anyone besides me has the R4511 here is some valuable info:

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?175249-Ridgid-R4511-granite-top-table-saw-parts

For owners of Ridgid R4511 granite top table saws that didn’t already know, most of the parts are the same as the Craftsman granite top saw model 221160. They have identical parts diagrams (with the exception of the lower case) with different part numbers. I have found that in most cases the Craftsman parts cost a little less than Ridgid. The Craftsman also has a riving knife, part number 31096.00 for $20.49 that fits the Ridgid. If you need to replace the six-rib motor to arbor belt (about $18.00 and a fifteen day wait) check out HCI Supply in Jackson TN. 1-800-748-8519. They sell a Pix 300J6 which is the same belt for $5.95 with same day shipping.

*** Prices have gone up a little since this post.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part-number/31096.00/0009/351.html?pathTaken=partSearch&q=31096.00

$22.49

$6.65 for the belt
